To clean or not to clean Moderators ? - That is the question.

WD40 ... horrid stuff, keep it away from your moderator ... unless ... you take it apart and clean it thoroughly with WD40 and a toothbrush (the WD40 being a petroleum distillate will dissolve to carbon and crud).
Then clean it off with warm soapy water and fully dry off prior to reassembly.

At this point your moderator will be three things ;

A) Louder
B) More susceptible to internal corrosion
C) Looking prettier (which is very important to some).

WD40 changed when it was sold to a Chinese firm , they changed the format some how , as I have found it will now actually promote rusting on uncoated steel . There are way better products available

WD-40 has not been sold to a Chinese firm.

The formula for some markets may be slightly modified to meet regulatory requirements.

Rusting on uncoated steel sprayed with WD-40 in certain circumstances has always been possible.

Yes, there are better products available.

Talking of a flawed argument - a mod will never see 60,000psi.

neither will most chambers, but you get the point.
The difference between 30,000 and 60,000 is largely redundant when it comes to blowing loose material out a hole!

I run Three Jet Z compacts ....... never cleaned them , never felt the need to clean .

There just fire and forget ,Just keep them dry.

And from my finding in the past , cleaner IS louder.

Now mods are off ticket, just chuck it and buy a new one, much easier

10 yrs with a dpt never cleaned, one of our cullers got 25+ 000 out of a 223, big hole in first chamber, never cleaned, didn’t sound to bad actually

BROWNING LIGIA, Napier etc. is formulated to neutralise corrosive powder deposits - WD 40 never was.
