Toying with a "Scammer"!

I have had a "scammer" get in touch with me trying a very different type of scam. I worked it out very quickly that it was some sort of a scam so I am playing him along. So far this is what has happened:-
He somehow came across my music channel on Youtube which I use mainly for the church as most of it is "Country Gospel" music. He contacted me posing as Alan Jackson (The well known and one of the most highly spoken of Country singers in the USA) He said that he really liked the way I played and would like to talk to me about joining in his "Crew" (Alan Jackson calls his backing band His Crew) so was I on Whatsapp and if so could I give him my number. I asked why he would want me in his band as I was just an amateur and there were a lot more better and experienced guitarists about. His reply was that he liked the way I put myself over especially in a couple of the songs that I had done, one of which was one written and recorded by the real Alan Jackson!! Anyhow I sent him my mobile number so we could "chat" on Whatsapp. He has now asked if I would think about "relocating" to the USA so that I could work with his crew and him in order to gain professional experience and carve my name out on the American Country Music scene. I explained that I was not a well off man so could not afford to relocate with my wife. His reply was (Quote) Forget the expenses, it won't be much for me, I'll cover it. Getting to me the right way was my consideration" So I replied asking him if he was suggesting that I relocated with my wife and joined and played in his band while on tour? His reply was "Yes, that's exactly what I mean"!
Unfortunately the week-end came upon us at that and I did not hear from him for a few days so I sent him a message on Tuesday saying that I was concerned that I might have upset him as I hadn't heard from him for a few days. (I knew the real Alan Jackson was on tour and playing in Lincoln NE on Friday and in Kansas City on Saturday)
Anyhow He got back to me last night asking how I was so I messaged back saying that I was fine and the wife and I had been talking and thinking over the week end and we had decided that it would be a good thing for us to relocate and take him up on his offer of him getting us out there and helping us to relocate etc and asking him to tell us where we would be living and how we would support ourselves i.e. What sort of money I could make playing in his band on tour?
I am waiting for him to get back to me, which is usually about 1 o'clock lunchtime here while it is about 8 in the morning in the states.
I know this is a scam but it is amusing playing him along now. I have his mobile phone number and the e-mail address he uses (Which I know isn't the real Alan Jackson's) so I am now waiting to see what his reply is. Obviously I will never give my bank details or anything like that out but I am waiting for some sort of a "sting" such as "what are your bank details so I can put some money in to your bank to fly you out here"
Any thoughts as to how I can string him along a little more to keep him interested guys as I am finding it great sport?

Edit: I had thought about asking for a conference video with him on Zoom, but that might put him off as it would show that it is not really Alan Jackson at all!

Should have added to #1 - He has asked me to promise that I will not give his phone number or e-mail address out to anyone.
As if I would! ;)

Are you not concerned he is gathering up all the information he can about you? Or sharing what he has with other scammers.

If he is in the states there is a way that you can find his IP address and where he lives. IT people may well know how to do it. You can then ask him what the weather is like where he is. They can get a shock when you send them an x marks the spot where his house is. Guy I know did that. But he was a clever it person.

I am not giving him any personal information except for the fact that I am married.
I see what you are saying but I am being extremely cautions over that!

I don't have the "know how" to do something like that unfortunately!
What I will say is that I have contacted the real Alan Jackson's security team and asked them to contact me and I will give them the phone number and e-mail address. I do know that the phone being used is registered in San Diego.

His grammar was the first giveaway: "getting to me the right way was my consideration". I can't imagine anyone with English as their first language speaking like that.

I've had a couple recently. The usual robotic recorded voice from a spoof 0300 landline number telling me fraud has been detected on my HMRC account and I need to phone this number to avoid going to jail.

The usual " the following payment on you Paypal account has failed please follow this link etc" - I don't have a Paypal account.

And the other day, "The payment of £499 on your Barclaycard has been declined. Please ring this number (an 0300 number again)". Again, I don't have a Barclaycard.

Agreed Finch that quite often there are errors that show these as scams!

There were several other quite bad grammatical errors in what he had written that I had picked up on too, which was a bit of a "give away". Unfortunately some people are that gullible that they fall for these scams, especially on these "Lonely Hearts" and "Dating" sites and end up getting robbed something rotten! You have to keep your wits about you on the Internet nowadays with so many scammers about but quite often there are some little points that can be picked up on in their text.
The way i see it is - In the words of one of Alan Jackson's songs Titled "The older I get" which says the following:

And the older I get the better I am
at knowing when to give
and when to just not give a damn!

Funnily enough "The Older I Get" is one of the songs that he said he had listened to on my music channel and said that I had done a "fantastic job on it" - The funny/odd thing is that he didn't even notice/realise it was a song that Alan Jackson himself had written and recorded!

I just want to string him along for a while and then I will phone him up and ask if it would be possible to speak to the real Alan Jackson - I suspect that if i do the line will go instantly dead!

Contact the road manager or the band PA , see if he is looking for a new member from the UK ? you never know unless you dig a little deeper.
Atvb
Hope its the real thing "but not the band" lol

I've just had him message me again about some membership that he mentioned last week so I have got back to him reminding him that he said he would get the details from his PA, so I have left the ball in his court so to speak. It will come to a time when I ask for a face to face Zoom meeting with him and that should throw the cat amongst the pigeons!
Getting the Road Manager's or his PA's details are like trying to find an oasis in the Sahara!

Everyone should report scam emails, texts and calls to the National Cyber Security Centre, here:

They are the only body that can effectively chase these people but they won't know who to chase if the scammers are not reported. Playing the fraudsters may be fun but it won't stop them targeting other people. I was getting inundated with traderbot phishing emails. Once I forwarded them to report@pishing.gov.uk they stopped pretty much overnight.

Had the H.M.R.C pay now or go to jail only last week but from a mobile number 🙃.
Wife's got that many post office parcel payments to make we,re going to be working past 75 to pay them off.
And still the baarstards try it on only yesterday our son needed cash ASAP as he was in deep do do in Spain.
But as he was facetiming the mrs from a Wedding in Derby she guessed it was a load of beep beep 🤫

The Royal mail you need to pay to get your parcel I tell them to send the Fecker back to sender !!!!

The reason they use WhatsApp is because it’s encrypted end to end so is basically untraceable.

I guess I would start looking for country music song writer forums and put all of his contact info out with a disclaimer that he is a scammer.

You may not be an evil genius but one of them may be and take things to wonderfully horrid levels
