Travel to Germany

Our advance party have just cleared customs in Berlin. It all went very smoothly with no trouble at all.

Passport control wanted to see:
1. Passport
2. German Digital Locator confirmation
3. UK Covid Vaccination Certificate

Customs wanted to see:
4. UK Firearms license
5. German Hunting license
6. Formal letter of invitation to the hunt

Let's hope it's as smooth for the rest of us tomorrow!

Leave us a couple for Nov/December will ya!:norty:
I might be able to hit a gong at 1200m consistently but for the last couple of years running piggies at 50m have proven somewhat challenging. I couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo last time. No danger of me wiping out the local population of Boar unless the practice has paid dividends, but there are a few in the party who are very handy at it, so no promises.

Well we have arrived and been allowed through customs with our rifles. All very easy.

I’m not sure I’m much wiser as to the paperwork required. The chaps who processed us just wanted to check the carriers paperwork and see the letter of invitation. Not interested in either or UK firearms license or the German hunting license. My guess is that they should have checked them but couldn’t be bothered.

Anyway, we’re here. Now off to the range for a bit more practice.

Weidmannsheil in Germany!
Do you mind telling where you are going to hunt? Arranged privately or by an outfitter? Driven boar hunt?
Just asking out of curiousity... haven't seen many UK hunters over here yet... not even one, to be honest... many Dutch, some Swedish and French people and often US guys from the Armed Forces.

I'd be interested in knowing that too as I would like to go to Germany on driven Boar hunts rather than go all the way to Croatia where I usually go.
Germany would be much easier to access by vehicle doing away with all the hassle we have at airports with our firearms.

First trip abroad for boar in almost two years, by car via tunnel today, declared rifles on booking in. No problem, went to passport control then to big sign which said DECLARE FIREARMS HERE so I did and was sent to security who asked for FAC and took it to office where I presume they copied it, "want to see rifles and ammo" no on your way sir.
Then thru french passport control and onto train. Drove off the other end and was on the motorway before I realized it without seeing anywhere to declare rifles to customs - there isn't anywhere!!!

Why were we worried?

Exactly how I found it just the same as before one exception if you have dogs is you go to check the dogs in and get your ticket after that, my dog has Euro passport and again zero issues, just crack on boys and girls the sky hasn’t fallen in and a kind of normality resumes, we’re not here for long so make the most of it.

All this talk of travelling to Germany has brought back so many memories of my time hunting in the country I love more than anywhere else, the people, the hunting customs and after the hunt all amazing.................... Weidmannsheil.

I travelled through Germany last week to shoot in Poland.
I had no contact with German customs, only with the Polizei at Munich and Frankfurt airports. The police wanted to see a "Erlaubnis zur Mitnahme von Schusswaffen/Munition in die durch die oder aus der bundesrepublik Deutschland".
We had arranged these permits in advance via a London agent, we spent weeks trying to arrange them direct with the German police but got nowhere.

Bring and take along to or through Germany
Bringing or taking weapons or ammunition to or through Germany is generally subject to a permit. The permit must be issued by the German administrative authority responsible for weapons law before the vehicle is brought or taken to Germany. Also for weapons that were already carried when leaving the country, the papers required by weapons law are required for re-entry.
It is advisable to find out whether this is permissible before you intend to bring or take weapons and ammunition with you to Germany.
If necessary, weapons or ammunition freely available in other countries may only be brought into the Federal Republic or taken with you under certain conditions or possibly not at all. The illegal bringing or taking of weapons and ammunition into the Federal Republic can be punished with imprisonment of up to five years, in particularly serious cases up to ten years. Examples can be found in the "Prohibited Weapons" section.
