What Rifle Calibre to Add or Change

I know this has probably been done to death, but I am putting in my renewal in January and was thinking of adding another calibre as either a swap or addional rifle.

I currently use a 223 for foxing and other vermin control, alongside a 22LR and 17HMR.
I also have a 243 as a stalking rifle which I also sometimes use foxing.

I am not sure if I need to change the 243 for say a 308/6.5 Creedmore/Swedish or something else or get the same as another rifle?

Happy to recieve thoughts on my dilema.

Depends what you fancy shooting! I have used my 243 on everything up to fallow but it’s best up to roe. The 6.5se and the 308 do everything else.
So if you want to get just 1 more then I would go 308 as that will cover all bases.
Just don’t discount the older calibres tho - they might not be cool but they still are very effective

I, just recently changed out my 6.5CM, having owned many different calibers over the years by far the best and most fun is my .300wm in Sako 85 Long Range, I'm using 175gr LRX bullet, almost hole in hole accuracy at 100m and to date on copper I've never had any UK deer walk or run when the bullet is correctly placed. Despite what you might think, there is no more meat damage than any other calibre, most of the time I actually think there is less damage. Still have a .308 and my 25-06 has a thermal scope permanently fitted.

The more calibers the merrier. Fill your cabinet. I did then purchased 3 more cabinets. And filled them But in reality you have it covered. Good luck with the renewal. Paul

Cheers, I think if I was starting agin I would have gone for a 240 Wetherby instead of the 223 and then 308 or some other rare beast. I like the sound of a 6.5 Sweedish but have not shot one. A friend has a 6.5 creed which hops around all over the place. Decisons eh!!

Cheers. Will have a look at that.

The swede is a cracker of a rifle. Low recoil, lots of load options and can take anything. Far less damage on a cwd or munty with a swede than my 243!!
My swede is my main rifle and I use the others when needs arise - all great but 70% of all deer are shot with the swede.

As others have said 275 Rigby / 7x57, or the 7x64.

308 though is very popular and good number of lead free ammo options available. It’s the standard cartridge for Forestry use hence availability of ammo and it just works.
I have used a 308 and the availablity of rounds makes it the easy option.
Cheers
