Ever thought about going to the range at Eskdalemuir and hitting a six inch gong at 800 metres first time every time ?2 the rest are bellow
It’s open restock and everything is bees with a thermal spotter so if I needed too I could get a second, the whole reason why I need to take long shots is because the banks are so steep so it’s either 800m or 10m because that’s how close you would be if u climbed up.It's the same old argument... if you need to deliver a second or third shot etc. can you get near enough to do it? At 800m... 10%, 20%?
I only shoot that far on the still day and my gong is an 8inch but I can hit it consistently first time at 800m if I couldn’t I wouldn’t be taking the shotEver thought about going to the range at Eskdalemuir and hitting a six inch gong at 800 metres first time every time ?
I have never miss or wounded one at 800, I have missed one at 650 where I went straight over its back because I miss calculated the angle of the slope.Better question is “how many have you missed or wounded and never recovered at 800 metres”
I know what you are saying, but that time will come. It’s open restock and everything is bees with a thermal spotter so if I needed too I could get a second, the whole reason why I need to take long shots is because the banks are so steep so it’s either 800m or 10m because that’s how close you would be if u climbed up.
I can struggle to hit an 8” gong at 80m some days…Never miss?? Always hit an 8” gong at 800m you sir are a world class shooter and at the tender age of 17 Im truly impressed… or…….

Honestly I’ve missed more deer at 100m than at 200m I think the closest miss was 14m that was a taleI can struggle to hit an 8” gong at 80m some days…
We’ve all been there!I can struggle to hit an 8” gong at 80m some days…
I would love to see you taking a guest out and saying " there you go, 600 meters is as close as I can get you, take the shot please ".It’s open restock and everything is bees with a thermal spotter so if I needed too I could get a second, the whole reason why I need to take long shots is because the banks are so steep so it’s either 800m or 10m because that’s how close you would be if u climbed up.
And as you well know, steep mountainous areas really don’t have swirling, inconsistent wind…So you have to shoot them at 800m cos the the ground is steep and you can never get close.
So how the **** do you then find them after you have shot them and then how do you recover them.
Leave the guy alone, he’s a teenager doing his best and still learning. You said your average distance was between 300 and 800m and now you're not, your not the only one who is confused.
Tip No 1, get closer.Leave the guy alone, he’s a teenager doing his best and still learning.
A couple of tips rather than criticism will go a long way.
Tip No 2 keep those shooting ranges to the PlaystationTip No 1, get closer.
In my days only one figure is average. in your case it would be 550m.I’ve not changed it, my closest shot is 300m and my furthest is 800m so that’s my average shots, nothings been changed
An 85gn hpbt ,243 does exactly the same, but its not something I like to see in the field.
