Which out of the box rifle do you recommend?

I‘m sure it will work. But do would a standard Tikka without all the weight and bulk adding features - if it has to be a Tikka. But I suppose it does as this is a UK forum.

Absolutely horrid in my eyes. A screw knob on the buttstock to catch on everything that comes along, a rail bolted to a rail, a protruding magazine and an unnecessarily heavy barrel. But, everyone to his own.

I have never had a problem with my T3 super varmint stocks screw knob.

What vintage of X bolt have you used. Mine is about 7 or 8 years old with the "super featherweight" trigger and I can't fault it.
Depends what you like and what you are used to I suppose

What about Weatherby Vanguard Sub MOA? It is just a Howa under Weatherby name. No frills, good price and accurate.

My last savage was probably the most accurate rifle I've ever owned. The worst bit is, it was a 308 axis, about as cheap as cheap comes it put literally anything under half an inch at 100 and reloads were quite literally ragged holes. Shouldn't have ever sold that thing

As a bit of one-upsmanship I have to say mine is the next one up, you know the one holts sold loads of new ones of for the price of two pints of lager and a packet of crisps. It’s the only one that get any attention at the moment and it isn’t ever being sold!

Its about 4 years old, i still shoot it regularly just iv never got on with the trigger. I guess i prefer a longer pull

A friend is looking to buy a new rifle for red, roe and sika. I'm out of touch with factory centrefires. Which factory rifle in 308 Win or 6.5 Creedmoor do folk recommend and why? He's looking for a rifle that will perform and last.

A professional stalker (who mainly uses Blasers) told me he took his new spare rifle - a Tikka T3x Rough Tech Ember to a very respected and established riflesmith last year. The stalker asked the 'smith what he could get him to do to it to 'Gucci' it. He said 'nothing.' To me that was telling, he was literally doing himself out of business.

I have owned four Sakos and love them but would buy Tikka next time as:

1. their design means you can mount virtually any scope on them (I had to sell my beloved S&B Polar as I couldn't mount it to my Nesika actioned custom rifle)
2. you can easily get aftermarket parts for Tikka such as stocks, now impossible for Sakos
3. the difference in quality between the two brands seems to have narrowed
4. the fact that they are used by more professionals than any other brand must be a ringing endorsement
5. they are well priced

Rem 700, mine has shot well out of the box for 12 years, only ever cleaned it, bog standard trigger/plastic stock...did I buy another one YES. They "all" shoot better than the person who buys them just a simple fact.

Yep - the Remmy triple deuce and the .308 have served me extremely well over very many years and a helluva lot of shooting.

I have just bought a sako s20 in creedmoor so be interested to see what it’s like!! It looks pretty which is fitting fur that calibre
