Why not run a poll as to how people passed their DSC1 then...

Personally, I needed the full course that Jelen ran, so in your eyes I have less than half a brain (no argument from most that have met me), so chalk up 1 vote for:
1. "Needed to Attend a Course"
may I ask why you needed to do the full course.

may I ask why you needed to do the full course.

Of course you may!

I wanted to meet other stalkers, and do the course with the ability to ask questions and hear answers to questions that I'd not thought of, and all on the fly.

I liked the classroom environment, and it worked for me.

Like I say, why not run a poll and ask for others' opinions, and we'll all get a better idea over a number of responses

thanks for that, did you have any stalking experience prior to taking the course or was you forced into taking the course so you could get your deer condition

I've been around firearms for over 30 years, and shot a number of rounds when in uniform, so knew which was the bad end of a bang stick. I'd been stalking for 12m or so, and wanted to better myself, and saw DSC1 as a proof point to myself, but it also can't hurt for when I start looking for my own permissions either.

It shouldn't be a prerequisite for FACs moving forwards and I know that BASC, CA, NGO etc are well on top of that one - see many separate threads!!!

I reckon you're on Jelen's books as you are perpetuating their marketing "strategy" by keeping this thread well and truly alive!!

C'mon, come clean :-D

To my mind there are four key issues here:
1. the duration of the course compared to other providers;

The exams are sent to the provider so they have sight of them prior to the candidates, the provider has the control of the pass fail in the practical elements. Unless the provider is audited by an aprover the only checks on their suitability revolve around their processes and procedures so unaffiliated centres are essentially self regulated (as is deer stalking/management as a whole).

1. There is a lot of material to cover in this short course if the syllabus is covered in full. The temptation if the provider did have a financial incentive to ensure everyone passes would be to "focus" on the areas in the exam.

2. In light of point one and, as stated, the provider has control of the practical elements; esentially the provider has complete control of the pass fail rate - should they have a financial incentive.

My understanding is that the training establishment do not have prior sight of the assessment exams. They are brought by the assessor, although there are I think 5 different versions and even the assessor does not know until they are opened what version he has.

If this is indeed the case then in light of this some of the aspersions being cast about above are without foundation.

There are only 280+ questions and the 5 exam versions draw on these. Not sure of the status of the Northern Ireland questions in these E&W packs.

Given that there are only 280+ questions, the training providers are able to focus on all of them. And so are the candidates. The candidates have the biggest incentive of all the parties to put the work in. It surely is rare for all of the elements to be failed on the day, and more likely that one or two elements may need to be taken again. I gather the fee for a retake is quite modest.

A person asking for their money back must surely be giving up on the entire exercise, otherwise the incentive is to pay a few extra shillings to take the resit element.

I believe the Assessor for Jelendeer is the BASC.

Hi Greymaster,

Our DSC1 courses are always assessed by BASC Assessors, not always the same ones. We would not be allowed to assess our own courses - and nor would we wish to. The fact that we're assessed by outside assessors - and our students still gain extraordinary results is testament to not only our method of instruction, and our attention to detail - not to mention our friendly approach - but also to the hard work and commitment of the students themselves. THEY are the ones who achieve extraordinary results, and all we do is provide the support and the quality instruction.

Regards,

Mike.

Hi everyone,

just to let you know that our June DSC1 is completely full, and there are 4 spaces left on our August course.

We are of course able to provide bespoke courses at your own property anywhere in the UK provided you have at least 10 people on the course, can provide somewhere to lecture and have a shooting range avalable to use.

Please do let us know if we can help.

Best regards,

Mike

Hi Munty6.5,

Perhaps you could tell us why this information might be of use to you? ... However, if you require information about any of our company business matters please email me on office@jelendeer.com, stating your full name and address and your reasons for requesting such information, then I would be only too happy to provide the information for you - provided of course you have a valid reason for your request.

Best regards,

Mike.

OK this thread has now gone beyond silly and I am closing it as I can see little or no merit in it being allowed to continue.
