Winter coat.

Hi all , looking at a warm jacket and seen the above , are the snugpak or softie jackets noisy? The other one i have been looking at is the seeland polar max

Well my snugpak jacket of over 25 years has finally died. I’m looking for a super warm winter coat for sitting out foxing.

They are quite expensive now so any advice on similar coat appreciated.
Montane Extreme Pile coat or smock. I have used mine all over the world in extreme conditions. Only thing better is Carinthia but you will pay 10x as much.

Have a look at some of the big angling stores and research the one piece suits. Designed for carp anglers who spend days camped out.
Bib and brace trousers good as they keep your back warm.
D

Yet another vote for buying yourself another Softie👍 Wasn’t often that the military got it right when issuing us kit but they definitely got it right with these! Used properly with layering & a good wind proof shell & it’ll keep you warm most nights out. On to my last one now but will be straight in to my local surplus store for another one if this one dies! If it ain’t broken……😃

Wear mine under my DPM smock.
Not noisy and protected from snagging on stuff that way.
I have the snugpak sallopettes too and wear them under trousers when piton a sitting still night

Wiggy’s of alaska
The parka all other parkas are judged against.
wiggy makes clothes for the guys who are prospecting for oil in the week and hunting the north slope at the weekend. he also makes the uniforms for alaskan state troopers and race wear for iditarod competitors. i wear mine ice fishing in sammiland.

I have a Schneider’s loden overcoat. It is fabulous, but not something g to stalk in
Really for sitting out high seat or doe box then they are very good OK old school. I just find loden seems to make me feel warmer it is more windproof than synthetic and so quiet.

The problem I have found with the coats I have ( Harkila pro hunter and Sedteam ) is that whilst waterproof, the outer layer soaks up water like a sponge, which does not help with the cold, especially if its windy......what coats are there aaround that dont do this?

Maybe try washing and reproofing with Nikwax Tech wash and TX direct. That's what I am about to do with my Swedteam jacket that has the same problem.

You could always check with the a tailor to see the cost of replacing the zip. I had the zipper give out on a FirstLite jacket of mine, ended up having the zip replaced and it’s good as new.

interesting! A coat that is not waterproof! Buffalo Special 6 Shirt Review that really is a novel concept! On their site, they say wear next to the skin....so you are not only getting wet, but also ditching layers ! Takes a leap of faith!
Buffalo are excellent coats. Somewhat similar to paramo in the way they work. Really quiet and very waterproof if used properly

They need a really good thermal gradient so wearing them close to your skin works well with just a wicking base layer or 2 under. No fleeces or down layers under

They are warmer than most waterproofs but will not keep you warm or dry when stood still or sat in a high seat

The main downside for stalking is they arent very rugged on the outer layer and you will rip them on brambles easily
