Could I raise a couple of points?
Firstly, by downloading a file that you know to be hacked data (hacked = stolen), you are
illegally processing other individuals' data that you are simply not entitled to, which is an offence under current data protection laws. You are essentially replicating the original offence. Someone else may have stolen it but you are doing the same thing - think about receiving stolen goods. Bear in mind this is an open forum!
For any members, past or present, of Guntrader, you will already have been contacted by the website to let you know that the data breach had taken place. If you want to find out exactly what data of yours has been lost,
ask Guntrader! DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE FILE, either from this thread or the Hunting Leaks website.
If you are not a member on Guntrader, you have no interest in downloading the file, so DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE FILE.
PLEASE, if you are aware your
current contact data is out there, report your concerns
in writing to your FEO, and mention:
1. You have been contacted by Guntrader to inform you that your personal data has been hacked.
2. You are aware that the Hunting Leaks website (give them the URL
News – Hunting Leaks) has downloaded the data hacked from Guntrader of individuals that may be identified as being in the shooting community (including you).
3. You are concerned that the Hunting Leaks website owner/operator is supplying this information to anti-hunting supporters/activists and inciting them to contact you. Relevant quote from the webpage: "please do contact as many as you can in your area and ask them if they are involved in shooting animals".
4. You are also concerned that this information could potentially be used by criminals to target you/your property as it may contain shotgun/firearms.
5. Request that the owner/operator of the Hunting Leaks website be investigated immediately with regards to their acquisition and distribution of stolen data of a sensitive nature. Request that the stolen data be immediately taken down.
6. Ask the FEO to pass on your request verbatim to your Constabulary's Cyber Crime Unit and to cc you into the email chain, so that you have a contact in the Cyber Crime Unit.
7. Ask for an incident number to ensure that this issue has been registered.
If we do not raise these concerns officially, no-one will know what the problem is and nothing will change. Time to get on those keyboards!
And yes, Guntrader have told me my current contact data has been hacked.
Also, Admin, would you think about locking this thread to prevent anyone accessing this file?
