Hi folks

Going to go with 10mm double braided polyester rope as recommended by makers of winch.

Next question from those with experience

How much do you carry length wise?

I was thinking 200m
But do I do it in

1x 200m length
Or
2x 100m length for easy of carrying / handling ?

Any recommendations from those on the know or experience with these recommended please

I would recommend one length because if you tie a knot to join two lengths together I dont think it will feed through the winch. I have 200m of rope.

The rope I have I think it is 6mm Dyneema. It weighs 6.15kg including the Treehog bag. The rope was snagging on the capstan spool but I tightened the pigtail feed in and it worked fine the last time I used it. I would recommend getting a spliced eye

Use the right knot and you will have no problems with it going around a capstan. 200metres of rope is an awful lot of rope to handle in a single length.

200m has not been a problem to handle for me. It's in a rope bag. Walk out to the deer with rope bag on my back, gralloch, strop them to spliced eye with carabina walk back and rope pays itself out but just run it through my hand to make sure there are no tangles. Winch in. Push feed rope back into bag, fasten spliced end to loop on bag, ready to use again. Knots lessen the breaking strain of rope

Aye double braid will do !!

Like fact dynes so light but strong but I can get 200m of double braid for around £170

Any ideas why winch company’s specify 10mm ? Is it because of breaking strain or to do with capstan diameter etc ?

Paul

Oh ps

Any links to rope bags ?

Paul just be careful if ordering rope off ebay as I ordered some off there 2 week ago and it never arrived, after a week they apologised and said another one would be dispatched...
Just opened a dispute with eBay tonight for my money back as still no.rope..

Look on the dyneema as an investment, like other kit, eg £5-600 scope, binocs, etc., it'll retain its value, and the lightweight nature of it will be appreciated long after you've wrung the tears out of the hankie!

That makes sense!

Just wondering why 10mm is recommended minimum diameter

If 6 mm works fine In Dyeneema as lad above uses I’m tempted

Paul

10mm spools better on the pulley giving better grip , I use 2 100m lengths joined if needed I have a good contact for low stretch rope is needed worked out about £80 for 200m

Can you pm me please I can’t pm you for some reason

Cheers
Paul
