Greta Thumberg Schools UN on Extinction

There's some world leaders that no matter how awful they are do at least get something right. Trump's "snub" to here as above in the video of the UN and the late Robert Mugabe here at an Afro-Indian Economic Heads of State Forum. Bad bastard as he was.

I was sent this yesterday, not saying what's right or wrong, but interesting read.

The extinction of reason | MelaniePhillips.com

That is spot on and so is the last quote as I've read a bit of the IPCC summaries:

“The IPCC reports have been read in a similar way to the Bible: you try to find certain pieces or sections from which you try to justify your extreme views. This resembles religious extremism.”

What are witnessing is not the imminent extinction of the planet. It is the extinction of reason.

I feel quite sorry for the kid, she definitely has toys in the attic and those who are using her for their agenda should be ashamed of themselves, its child abuse at best.

That's about the only sensible article I've read on the issue. The replacement of reason with emotion is one of the real issues in the wider environmental debate.

There was an article recently in the Guardian about a conservation conference where the topic of debate was why is conservation such a failure, and the predictable answer is that it is because conservationists are doing it wrong. They focus on a small number of photogenic species, ignore the need for balanced ecosystems and go for misguided or counter-productive activism. They're political activists not real conservationists and that is why nature is suffering.

Blair introduced this idea into British politics that feelings are more important than thoughts, and Cameron, then May took it to new heights of stupidity enthusiastically aided by the media.

On the other hand, Thunberg and activists do have a point. Governments must do more to reduce pollution and move towards zero carbon lifestyles. The first thing Governments ought to do is undertake feasibility and pilot studies to assess what would happen if we did move immediately to a lifestyle with no fossil fuel use. Fortunately, many countries have sufficiently large groups of Extinction Rebellion activists who are only too happy to show us how to live without fossil fuels - no electricity, no food transport, no medicine, no clothes, no job, no welfare etc etc. All that needs happen is for Governments to ensure that these activists do as they say, and observe whether they mostly die as we'd expect, or whether they are right and that it is possible to live and to have a properly functioning society without fossil fuels. They're right, we need to follow the science, so let's have full scale experiments to inform us.

Dan Pena versus Greta Thumberg's Aunty on Climate Change

Have you seen the movie "The Big Short"

watch it with a pillow under your chin to stop from breaking it when your jaw hits the deck at what government and big buisness are willing to do to the general population for the sake of greed

I hope you are even more shocked that no one significant went to prison for the lies and corruption which cost millions their lives, livleyhoods and homes and caused a near global economic collapse

Denial of mans impact on the planet is puerile

Sadly thinking it can be stopped is IMHO hopeless. We missed that boat several decades ago.

BUT we could possibly slow it down a bit.

Are you aware that in Beijing the "posh" schools now have plastic environmental domes over them and air purification systems

Clean Air systems are the new big thing in China

Quite, so i mean why be THAT angry about our generation raping and destroying the planet she will have to live on after we are long dead

Cant she get into Love Island or something more befitting a 16 year old

Christ Kids ey?

The probability is that she wouldn't have been born or would be dead by now if we hadn't been inflicting the damage she complains about. If she'd considered that for a minute, she might have avoided her intemperate and infantile display at the UN.

Yes I have seen the big short. Right up with Enron and other corporate ripoffs. Interestingly you can see Mr Skilling and Mr Falstow on Linkedin who are now out of prison after a decade with a missing decade on their resume.

I went to China twice last year for work. Don't confuse air pollution with CO2. CO2 is not a pollutant. A fact that seems to get missed by many people. Its a naturally colourless, odourlesss gas required by plants.
I though China was bad until I went to India for work. Mumbai is hell.

Don't confuse diesel particulates with CO2.

god help the bloke who marry,s her, she is one scary kid bs
the sad thing is that may never happen, she will likely burn out and should she survive that unfortunate ordeal, will probably spend the rest of her existence in an institution full of chemicals in a corner quietly dribbling.
how ****ing sad. and I hope the puppetmasters of this poor exploited creature are sorry, but odds on it will be everyone else's fault.

Personally it does rather give me hope that kids of today are worried about their future. Whether or not you agree with climate changer per se, the amount of pollution that man has caused over the last 50 odd years can only be badly damaging our environment. I think the reason that many of us find the whole subject disturbing is because actually it's bloody scary.

Spend five minutes walking along any part of your stalking grounds and you will have a quite a collection of litter. Walk along any beach and you will have a large collection. And look how plastics have taken over with just about everything we buy now covered in plastic.

Something has to change and has to change very fast. And that requires a change in political will.

Co2 just traps in heat in the upper atmosphere making it hotter and hotter in the closed loop system on earth.

It will change the climate we are accustomed to living in.. places where its hot today, will become uninhabitable and mass migration of hundred of millions of Africans and Asians up into Northern Europe will start.

Christ Kids ey?

Quite.

Kids. One in particular too stupid and blinded by misplaced hatred to appreciate the fact that the yacht she sailed on is made from carbon fibre. Which has a carbon footprint something like 14 times that of steel.

And she conveniently ignores the other salient fact that the five people bringing the vessel back will first have to fly to the states. So her wee PR stunt has created around six times the emissions than if she'd just flown over in the first place. And she could've saved even that if someone had had the commonsense to put her back into her box in the first place.

Kids, ey?

World wide Airplane use, only produces 2% of all C02 emissions.

RightWing talking points that people should not fly to climate meetings...

that has to change on a public individual level too, a small portion of my life involves areas where the general public are allowed access, the amount of rubbish, nappies, plastics, emptying the cars ashtrays wherever they happen to be parked, and even human excrement on footpaths, is absolutely astounding given they are quite likely among the first to complain if it were their property. I walk my estate after a shoot and apart from a peg to be collected until next time and perhaps the odd feather you wouldn't know it had happened. so who is it that needs educating? . and who has no respect for the countryside, certainly not shooting folk
