Bullet Heads used in Sako Superhammerhead .308?

@Tomc1990, we don't mean to be mean, but the term "head" is widely abused here and winds up a great many members.

Sako are probably the instigators as they have their "Gameheads" and "Hammerheads" but they are talking about bullets, just plain bullets. Their marketing department has a lot to answer for.

The "head" of a cartridge is at the base of the brass. It's nowhere near the bullet and calling the bullet a head is not only poor terminology but confuses the sh*t out of many of us. We're not being totally anally retentive or pedantic, just keen on using the right words to describe the parts of a cartridge.

How's that for polite?

Pound to a penny if I walked in to a gun shop asking for a box 150gn seria g/king heads they would just take them off the shelf. Say that will be xyz pounds please. take the cash/card and that would be it....
However on here................

The loo on boats Nigel is referred to as the head...
A brass hook from an ironmongers for your window shutter is a hook, get it from ships stores it is a cabin lock/latch...

Hi There,

Does anyone know what bullet heads Sako uses in their 150gr .308 Superhammerhead ammunition?

Thanks

Tom
Have not used the Sako 150gr Superhammerhead much but initially thought they were very similar in bc and performance to Federal Fusion. Could the bullet be made by Federal?

However on here Tim some are a little better informed and experienced. Just because it's a term used by many it doesn't make it right. If we're likening it to nautical terms it's a bit like calling the bow the stern, you've got it entirely the wrong way round.

As for the "Heads", funny story...

Admirals Cup trials in the 80's. Blowing dogs off chains in the channel on a 40 footer. Spinnaker was up and it was blowing so hard it was decided by the brains trust at the back end that we had to get it down. The bowman grabs the retrieval line, puts it down the **** house door (front hatch) and tells the sewer rat (nipper down below) to tie it round something solid so when the halyard blew we didn't loose it. The bloke on the piano (halyard man) blew the spinnaker halyard but hadn't run the line properly so it came down 20ft, jammed, and the spinnaker filled again. The pressure came off the retrieval line as the halyard came down but when it jammed and the shute filled again it snap loaded with a vengeance. When the "Heads" came smashing through the front hatch and flew 50 ft into the air it became apparent that the nipper had decided in his infinite wisdom the "something solid" was in fact the toilet.

So a "Head" can be a projectile, but definitely not the type we shoot from our barrels.

According to Sako's description in the link I posted in #13 "It was developed and tested by Sako ballistic laboratories first, followed by actual extensive big game hunting tests".

Doesn't actually say it isn't made by Federal and could be careful wording but seems unlikely?

Ah Ha...waiting for the definition of slugs...know no reference to slow stalkers please...

There was one part you skipped while typing your sea shanty tale...

The last few posts have been amusing, and I’m ashamed to put my grown ups hat on but I cannot fail to get a little exasperated by the frequency with which this comes up.
In life there are many times when the term head is used, whether it relates to ammunition (case head, bullet head) , body parts (head, femoral head) or geographical features (Beachy Head) and we all manage to understand what is meant. Therefore the use of bullet head or case head are specific enough to avoid ambiguity whilst the use of the term head alone is ambiguous when taken out of context. For example “I want to sell a box of 150 grain Sierra Gameking heads” is quite clear and needs no correction but “I noticed a scuff on the head of a round” is ambiguous.
anyway just my 2p worth. I would use an emoji now but my phone won’t let me !!

Some one mentioned if it's a bullet hole or a head hole.
I know one thing there some arse holes when it comes to shooting at times. Who honestly gives a s....t
