Cigar Smokers

I recently got more into the world of cigars during the lockdown. They make a great occasional treat (I'm not made of money). Lots of variety within the UK at reasonable prices, somewhere between £10-20 per stick for a 40-60 min smoke. You dont need the old world Cubans every time, you can get good sticks from brands like Avo and Regius and other new worlds. If you only want to possess a few cigars at a time I would recommend an acrylic jar and digital hygrometer.

Stinking things! Spent a few trips in various places around the world with people who are into cigars....I just don’t get it! I’m a ex smoker and have had some nice cigars given to me but usually decline! But by the same standard I’m in whisky country and haven’t found one I would drink yet (apart from maybe Edradour cream)

The running joke is that men shouldn’t want a long fat thing inserted anywhere in their body!

Regards,
Gixer

Ah well, your loss!

Supposedly some very rich Americans from the South seem to enjoy ripping open top tier cigars to chew the tobacco...

Would rather the cigar be left untouched if that is the case!

seen that first hand....and no loss here! You knock yourself out! 😂😂

Nice topic. I really enjoy (total weakness) a bit of a smoke when outdoors, but only special outings or days out. Never ventured that far into cigars so my knowledge isn’t great. Monticristo No.4’s Are brilliant (price / quality) and you wouldnt want more than 1 in 24 hrs.

In my experience the enjoyment / quality can vary massively depending on how they have been stored and how old they are. Well stored in a humidor pays dividends.

I have to say, I am a big whisky drinker but I don’t enjoy cigar and whisky at all. Red wine or port would be my favourite accompaniment.

Never been one for ceegars, mainly a pipe. When I could no longer get a block of Gold flake I went on to black cherry. Everyone on the beaters cart used to love the smell of that. Seven years off it now but may start again at 80.

Hi
I smoked black cherry for years. A lovely smoke and as you say most people liked the smell. Had some Lung issues so had to quit all Tobacco. Still got got my pipes though and still miss it.

The last time we were in Mozambique I took some monstrously expensive cigars - I think they were about £60 each - but a friend has got them via duty free at a discount.

Long Short.

Four days of effort and my Buffalo is down. It is time to celebrate. I give each of the trackers a cigar, pass one to my hunting partner and light one up.

After a few moments, my mate draws my attention to the trackers. They have broken off a tiny segment of their cigars and are busying rolling it into a Rizzler paper.

I do not know whether to laugh or cry...

Love that!
Reminds me of a saying we had in Uni: "Only the rich students can afford to bin the buts out of their ashtrays".

Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No 2 with a 16 yr Lagavulin or 1952 Leyratt Cognac... wonderful on far too few sunny occasions in the garden.
This year was rather exceptional with opportunities presented by lockdown though.
Hmmm....

I do like an epicure No2. That was my favourite holiday cigar when still allowed to go to the sun. Sit on the balcony or verandah at the end of the day, a post prandial coffee and whatever the decent local spirit is, watch the sun go down with a quiet smoke.

Then off to bed for a bonk.

Well, a man can dream.

All down to technique. Practice for a week or so without lighting it until you're familiar with handling it and drawing on it.
Pipesmokers spend more time fiddling about than actually smoking, so by not lighting it you won't be any different from the others anyway!
I confess I do enjoy a pipe from time to time.
