Freyr and Devik

I have a .22 F&D 149 on my 7mm-08 which I imagine is probably working at the extremes of its design.

This thread has caused me some concern so after probably 40 rounds through it I decided to take a peak inside.

Apart from the expected mank, everything is in excellent order.

I tend to remove my mods and sit them on the radiator for a couple of hours before storing separately from the rifle.

As others have said I view cleaning mods as a fruitless exercise but I will probably try and get into the habit of a clean every 50 rounds or so.

Hopefully any reported issues are restricted to some batches as opposed to a design related flaw.

I find it to be a great lightweight moderator...........so far so good!

Ben, it's worth stripping a little more regularly. The tube over the baffles got stuck on with mine and it took a good overnight soak in WD40 to loosen it.

I am the recent owner of an as yet unfired F&D 196. I suspect any moderator can fail and no lightweight moderator will last for ever. I plan to use mine happily, clean occasionally and not worry too much.

Screw the mod on, pull the trigger, bullet goes through the mod.

There is obviously tolerance in the mod to accept a 7mm bullet as I was advised by the RFD and since Alan Maugham built and threaded my rifle I had absolute faith that it would go to plan.

This is Edinburgh rifles, not F&D. They are not stating this themselves. So watch out who you‘re blaming.

I am still very happy with my F&D Titanium I have the Sauer badged product i bought it along with my 404 from a Sauer main dealer, I posted pictures of it earlier in this thread it’s been attached to a 300wm and has no signs of corrosion and the centre body is Titanium only the outer two pieces of the tube are aluminium. Given how May Sauer must sell across Europe and worldwide if there was an issue surely we would also have heard back via that route, be interesting to hear from anyone in the Sauer dealer network

I bought a .22 t12 but that’s actually 8mm at the muzzle. Imagine they’re all much the same.

Agreed, its all very confusing and manufactures need to do better. The manufactures will describe a mod as .22, but it is actually wider and then rate/recommend/advise its use for a range of calibres.

You need to ask for the "measured bore diameter" to work out what is actually going on. Even more than that, because a mod may have a series of tubes and internal cavities, you need to ask for the "minimum measured internal bore diameter".

I genuinely think if a manufacturer included decent cross-section diagrams of their products with decent measurements they could gain a lot of market share and sell more moderators.
