What vehicle do you use for stalking or management?

The length of the chassis would have no bearing on the weight of the vehicle it's the contact patch of the tyres that transfers the weight to the ground, perhaps you learned by the mistakes of the 90 and became a better off road driver when you had the D22 🤔
😂 possible, however I noticed the difference from a Saturday days hunting to the following Wednesday, I wish I could improve the rest of my life so quick 😂

The Japanese pick up truck ! You absolutely cannot better a pick-up crew cab 4x4 . Only trouble is they are getting too many gadgets and too high a price .
Some manufacturers need to wisevup that many of us buy them not lease them for two years and it takes us a couple of months to lean how to use a new phone let alone the starship enterprise.

I'm on my second Jimny , 7 years old, 25K Miles, it does what it says on the box.
Removed rear seats, put a marine ply floor in, lined with chequer plate.
1" spacers on the hubs, BFG AT tyres,
I can get 2 Fallow prickets in it, but big bucks .... only one. ( Call for help with transport if I'm lucky)
Lift gantry was built by a local (very) skilled marine fabrication welder, and last year made an extension to facilitate lift height for fallow bucks and get them completely off the deck for gralloch.
It will do for me.
Looks good. I've got a jimny and was thinking of doing something similar. Did you do the flooring yourself?

17 year old Disco 2, Buddhist version ( the one with everything).
It’ll take me 3 or 4 mates plus our gear and dogs, cruises at or about motorway speeds, has leather heated seats that still work, doesn’t leak much and starts on the button.
When it doesn’t start, parts are cheap as chips and I can generally fix it myself.
I tried the Defender, couldn’t get on with it, tried a couple of Rangies and loved them but parts are expensive and you’re wasting your time without a computer for anything after the P38, so Disco for me.
Its also creeping up in value, not as good as a Defender or classic Rangie but sneaking up a bit. You can still bag a half decent one for 5K ish.
Completely agree and its off road ability is excellent. Then only problem I have found with it is the running costs here in Ireland

Nissan patrol ( manual) and now recently the land cruiser ( automatic), can't fault them, had the 110 defender before these, which was faultless, it was written of by a lunatic driver when it was parked up, I think I would still be driving that now, BUT automatic and cruise control is something else when on a long journey, cant fault the patrol or the landcruiser off road, as much as I love the Toyota the patrol is the one to beat, I've dragged a few landies out of the mire with that

Sold my defender 90, bought a mazda (read Ford Ranger). I dont have tinnitus after a three hour journey and my back injury isnt prevented from healing !

I loved it and it was great for country lanes and farm tracks but I just dont need genuine off road capability. Ive also fitted a winch and frame internally which should make life so much easier.

well I'll say it....
I'd be looking at Haflinger for short distance type work, or a Pinz if we had to go a bit further

Costs are actually not too bad, its on commercial tax, insurance is around 500 and you can get a lot of parts from Otto for reasonable money. I used to deal with Landrover parts sellers in the UK but Brexit has put an end to that until I can source an accommodation address in Nornirun.

But....what about the sanctity of the Single Market !!? ;)

Plenty of parts available, its the provenance that is iffy. Quick perusal of FB Marketplace and a drive to Newry should sort you out. Stock up on sassages while youre there.

I’ve always used smaller 4x4s before. Jimnys. A Pinin and vitaras. Until I got this 2007 Hilux. This is my first pick up and I’m definitely a convert. Although possibly not as good as the jimny for off road ability purely because of weight (although I might be proved wrong) in terms of comfort and everything else it wins hands down

Series 5 L200. Dont do lots of offroad but the comfort is fantastic. Makes the 9 hour drive to Scotland a pleasure and local shooting carries every thing easily

I did all the prep work, and installed the floor bearers and marine ply base, the welding of the chequer plate was outwith my limited skills.

If you PM me your email address I'll send more pics and detail should you be interested. The pics are too large for the site posting.

Very nice that looks a very capable motor, a stalking buddy has one and I was very impressed on its off road ability, where we went in it my motor would have been sitting on top of the bank with the wheels all off the ground
Thank you, I'm really enjoying it! I did a 2" lift and put bigger mud tyres on it which should help a lot off road. Together with my portable capstan winch it should help me extract big deer nicely.
