There has been a retraction of the statement I believe. Looks like it is still ok for the moment

Possibly a confusion arising from the fact SAA no longer have the necessary security clearances to carry firearms.

Well that's one piece of good news then. I know SA airlines have stopped taking firearms, or at least that seems to be the case. However taking any firearm through any British airport is always a bit of a lottery, in my opinion.
