What you are describing there, are not in fact Prometheus pellets, but in fact, Sussex armoury sabots, if memory serves, aYes. And with the plastic pluger thing that looked like a Bic pen top. Even if you were inside the car it was still not easily achievable. Like the chocolate fireguard and the bicycle seat belt the prometheus pellet was another invention that also was "effing useless"!
.172 calibre jacketed bullet, inserted, as you rightly say with the bic pen thing, I personally remember them being extremely accurate in my HW80 in the 1980s until they were sadly banned I believe, I still have the original plastic box and one or two of the plastic sabot jackets, but no projectiles or the pen thingy.
