Just seen a post on Giving Up The Game from Billy Wyatt about a carcase someone had bought and had asked him to store in his chiller. He pointed out to the person and the site about the state of the carcase and that people should be looking for proof of DSC1. OK, I know people have their issues with DSC , but I found it very informative.

It just goes to show what some people will pass on for human consumption. I recently had a few couples round who wanted to buy carcasses and wanted guidance on carcase breakdown. The first thing I got them to do was inspect it and explained that if it didn't look or smell right don't buy it and don't assume you will get the same standard carcase from everyone.
On a separate note, I use Giving Up The Game occasionally to sell, I always take a deposit now to stop time wasters. Billy Wyatt has opened up venison to a lot of people and other than the odd time wasters he has to be commended for what he has done and the amount of Game he gives away. He is in the running for an award again this year, IMO he deserves it.

Not the first time they’ve had problems on that group. It isn’t uncommon to see out of season deer and roadkill deer offered up. I think most people mean well but a fair few push the limits of law, best practice and food hygiene.
 
I absolutely agree. I have had some truly dreadful carcasses offered to me, from those harbouring fly eggs to something which has clearly not been shot.
 
You're not saying that someone will sell any old rubbish for financial gain are you? Having all the qualifications doesn't mean jack. What means something is not being so money greedy that they would try and sell stuff that is substandard. I've said it before but I'm shocked at some of the stuff I see at game dealers.
 
Not everyone shooting deer knows what to do with them once they’re on the deck… I once dropped a carcass at the dealers in their ‘out of hours’ chiller & spotted a roe hanging with head on still so had a closer look. All tagged up with ‘trained hunter’ tag but legs had been taken off with tree pruning secateurs, rib cage looked like a scene from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre & on inspection antlers had been sawn off at the base & pistle removed - roe bucks were out of season at the time!

Is Billy Wyatt the one who runs giving up the game?
If so, guys a tit and needs a reality check.

Giving up the game Is a lovely little place, Great for areas that dont have game dealers as well. (Common complaint for my pal)
But my god I seen that post when it came out horrible, Although I will admit I've never dealt with green as all my deer are butchered for me (5ft, and red deer dont mix well) does It render the entire carcass not fit for human consumption?
 
Biggest problem i am constantly hearing is poor knife work and people running their chillers too warm!

we all know 7 deg is the book max, personally in my opinion its too warm, i run mine at 2deg, you wont go to a butchers and see their chillers at 7deg so why a stalkers?

If you are selling your deer to a dealer or other, chiller running costs dont even come into it.

Mines been on a month straight now and cost me so far just over £100 or £25 a week, but when you have £600-£1000 of red or fallow in it, the cost is irrelevant.

As for knife work, well of you cant do it properly dont shoot them simple
 
There’s no shame in some deer shooters , I don’t call them deer stalkers , game dealers and what the dealer should accept is mind blowing , seen it a few times down our way with one guy who continually left badly gralloched and filthy carcasses into the local chiller , it got that bad I complained without mention of his name and the dealer admitted he knew who I was on about and that he’d been given one last chance to tidy up or go somewhere else , this guy just didn’t care what they looked like but he blagged on and on about how good he was .. as we say “ all the gear and no idea”, I took this picture of his tagged carcass , the anal canal had pellets inside it , the pelvis hadn’t been split so I couldn’t get a clear picture , the rib cage hadn’t been cut either and the chest cavity was discoloured with peaty water and blood . Pathetic and effortless effort .
