.275 Rigby Nice low recoil, range of bullet weights and flatten anything in e
I've been reading about the .275/7x57.......loading options from 120gr to around 180gr......It certainly has an awful lot going for it and as someone famously put it.....has killed just about every game mammal on earth over the years.275 Rigby Nice low recoil, range of bullet weights and flatten anything in europe
No need for home work buy a .300 Win MagCheers, thats one I had not considered. Homework for tonight.
Yes but then step up to a .300 Win Mag.Everyone needs a 270.
Oooo….good suggestion….can’t beat. 30-06 for all round capability! Lovely to shoot as well.30-06 calibre of the gods
Tusker
Nooooo!t gave me an actual headache when zeroing….
God uses a 300 Win Mag.30-06 calibre of the gods
I like the idea of the same model. For that very reason I am thinking of getting rid of the 243. It’s not the rifle, easily sub moa at 100 yds, it’s the stock. So many options. Are you after something unusual or just something else? What sort of deer do you generally shoot?
I'd bin off the .243 and get a .25-06 because they're just better. Whilst you're at it, and if you are likely to shoot bigger deer or boar, put in for a .30-06 too. Find a rifle that's really comfortable and buy two the same. You get a spare magazine for both rifles because you just take the mag out of the one you're not using at the time, and you can set them up so they're both familiar. Essentially the same in every way apart from the cartridge they fire.
You could do the same by just adding a .308 to what you have and buying the same rifle. Or you could go really oddball and get something like a .358 Winchester - still uses the same magazine but you'd most likely have to buy used and rebarrel. Or.... Rebarrel the .243 and get a 6.5 Creedmoor as your small deer gun.
There's a lot to be said for having two rifles set up the same. It just feels really natural. I have a .25-06 and a .35 Whelen (necked up .30-06) - there isn't much I can't do with a .25 and .35 combination. It basically counts out the big 5, that's it.
The 25/06 and 30/06 combination is something to think about.Oooo….good suggestion….can’t beat. 30-06 for all round capability! Lovely to shoot as well.
The only downside is the amount of powder they consume…my 06 is around 51grains for a 150gr vs 42 grains in a 6.5 for a 140gr. Which is around 30 less rounds per 1 lb of powder…
But I still love my 06 and would never sell her.
Just be careful as a .25-06 rattles through a .30-06 but it doesn't work the other way.The 25/06 and 30/06 combination is something to think about.
You won't close the bolt on it in either case so not an issue.Just be careful as a .25-06 rattles through a .30-06 but it doesn't work the other way.
I suppose the same for .243 and .308 and plenty have them in the same cabinet.
I can vouch for the .25 Yew Tree bullets being great for foxes out of mine. They open right up.25-06?
If copper is to be the future, and velocity is advantageous for reliable expansion, then a 100 grain at 3250fps would seem to fit the bill.
Or for a modern cartridge the 7 PRC.Nooooo!
God uses a 300 Win Mag.
In all seriousness if you want the best allrounder of the lot a 7MM Rem mag is as good as it gets. You can load down to little hand grenades or up to heavy weight game loads...faster, flatter, farther.
As can be seen there is a vast array of projectiles to choose from.
circa 44 years I have been using my 7mm RM,I actually took it with me tonight for a wander and sit before dark. I was gonna let her rip too but Sambar deer dont always play the game.Or for a modern cartridge the 7 PRC.
