Therefore of no use!Interesting read and a substantial amount of real evidence rather than just hearsay and speculative opinion. Which is even more interesting as the steel keeps a tighter pattern so may explain why people "think" it's not as effective when in fact they're just missing.
Well not to those who aren't a very good shotTherefore of no use!

If you are not on the target static or moving then you will miss...I learnt the difference of steel to lead so take the 3" bit heaver 425 just for ducks and steel, then the lighter 325 for pigeons and leadTherefore of no use!
I wouldn't know about that as I'm happy with my proficiency with both lead and bismuth. What ever of the many uses that a versatile metal like steel might have shotgun shot is not amongst them.Well not to those who aren't a very good shot![]()
The ballistics of tungsten shot are far superior to the alternatives, however it shares the ability of steel to trash gun barrelsInteresting what he has written, yet wildfowlers are telling me they bring down even geese with 2mm tungsten shot in .410s at range, yet the article suggests otherwise.
Also his results show you need a large pay load 1.1/4oz for steel to be effective due to the large size of shot required at sensible muzzle velocities. Steel being lighter and bigger in diameter quickly loses. velocity and hence energy.
Interesting chokes on steel at range, no comment about HP steel, is all steel in US HP?
Ah, so you can drive them fast…. if only!HP only exists for CIP countries which excludes USA as their SAAMI standard has no such limits on velocity or momentum like CIP standard.
Even if it means shooting with a single barreled ou?This is my limited observation of steel. on a recent day I found some no. 4 steel 20 bore Express 24 grm. My bottom barrel is half choke so I put the steel in that barrel as the top barrel is 3/4. I shot 2 pheasants and one duck and missed a duck. The 3 birds that I shot died instantly. Not scientific I know but I would gladly use steel if need be.
Tusker
You must be like the last of the Mohicans if you have eaten game shot with leadThe report is USA based, seems fairly scientific but acknowledges that most pheasants in the USA are shot up the arse!!
Our small shoot feel that steel even a couple of pellet sizes larger than lead is inferior to lead for duck…..
Of course we’re all dying from lead poisoning….. dropping like flies we are…
