Home office consultation on deregulating sound moderators

The Home Office is having a consultation on removing moderators from requiring licensing.

Get on their page and be sure to have your say 👌

Odd that they claim that sound mods are less dangerous than firearms, it's difficult to imagine how they are dangerous at all?
Some of them would make a dent if thrown 😂

I don't get how they get to a mod presenting a danger, safer for shooters, any people near by, horses/cattle that could be spooked by loud cracks (if using subsonic ammo).
Possibly even reduce police workload by causing less of a disturbance shooting at unsocial hours!

Hopefully the consultation will have an impact and they'll make the adjustments!

Done

And one day we might get a consultation on have just a few types of rifles. Smallbores - ie rimfires, full bore centrefire hunting and target rifles - ie anything from .22 Hornet on up and possibly High Muzzle Energy - anything over and above say 10,000 ft lbs.

An FAC would automatically grant you a Rimfire and 2 Centrefire. If you want further slots then you would need to good additional reason.

Would immediately remove all the endless work on variations etc.

If you want to change a rifle. Simply transfer one to another FAC or RFD, and transfer new rifle to your ticket. Notify Police of the transfers.

If you want to rebarrel a rifle to another calibre, just notify Police of change of calibre - rifle no 1234566 has changed from 6.5 cm to 7x57:)

That would save so much hassle.

I think without any increased risk to the public, we could have bands and you apply for a rifle in a band and category,

I.e. target, hunting or a combination of both, then provide a need for a band, which could be allocated:

1. Rimfire rifles up to .22 bore
2. Centrefire rifles up to .22 bore
3. Centrefire rifles up to .30-06
4. Magnum and medium bore rifles up to 375 H and H
5. Big bore rifles I.e 404 etc
6. High powered target rifles such as .338 lapua or .50BMG

In my system, you could then change on a one for one basis within your band. Would save so much admin.

I think the easiest way to drastically reduce the number of firearms would be to allow .22 centrefire for roe in England. I know so many people with a .222 for fox and Scottish roe and a .243 for English roe only.

Sorry for the diversion from the thread!

That would be ideal!

There are muzzle energy limits for airsoft and air rifles which seem to work well enough so I don't see why firearms couldn't be broken into muzzle energy groups such that the holder of an FAC for a rifle or rifles within a specific group can change rifles within that group without a variation, but obviously notifying the police of any change
In the same way that policing sub12ftlb air rifles for exceeding the power limit is extremely difficult and prosecutions very rare, policing rifles that fire cartridges that exceed the power limit would be very difficult

Cheers

The difference with powder burners is that it is the cartridge that determines the muzzle energy far more than with air rifles or air soft.

Even with .22LR, you can have RWS Z-Lang at 39ft/lbs up to CCI Stingers at 191ft/lbs, basically 5 times the power.

If the slot was .22RF (rimfire) you could even extend that consideration to CCI MaxiMag in .22WMR at 359ft/lbs, basically giving a range of up to 9 times the power of the .22LR stuff.

Far easier for the Home Office to just define it by calibre.
