The same thing has happened here on DoD ranges. The 6.5 CM's higher velocity and longer range, has put the validity of the safety of the impact areas in question. So, they banned it.
<chuckle> And people wonder why the military is always behind in cartridge adoption as well as TTP's. Their dogma and bureaucracy continue to hinder their keeping up with technology and it's associated changes. Unfortunately it takes a crisis (like a bunch of servicemen getting killed needlessly) before there is any motivation to change the current dogma. Same old story, same old results....
Fortunately, we have a lot of military personnel that come out to our range, and they take back what they have seen to their units, which at least begins the rumblings to higher ups, that they are completely out of touch with modernity when it comes to firearms (and their effective employment).
