I was checking to make sure it wasn’t the 1st April….

Also applies on some civilian ranges, something to do with insurance?
Very true,I'm a member of one that I understand started life as a pistol club, even though its in a quarry and the owners keepers can zero their rifles there the club has a muzzle velocity limit of 2200fps,fine for BP and pistol calibres and .22 benchrest

I suppose it depends how you define a fudd - but for the definition that springs to my mind, I would tend to regard such usage as a first-rank symptom of actually being one.
:)
i don't have to define them they do that for themselves x

It amazes me how proud some people are to be borderline illiterate.
If it turns you on, then great, but it still makes you look like a pratt.

only to people whose opinion i couldn't give a hoot about x

those that know me love me because i'm awesome x

this could not be more ridiculous !

this nearly as ridiculous as not being able to use .303 brit on thetford range as it's not 308

i am seriously worried about whoever is in control of these decisions and their lack of knowledge
I`m surprised at that, as I discussed using mine there & actually shot there Saturday just gone using .308. The rco actually has a .303 smle no.4 wich I`ve previously used at another range & he didn`t say it wasn`nt allowed.

Well if you are in their head the logical conclusion is to ban everything other than 5.56.

They just want rid of us really
Hopefully that is not the case. As I was just saying I went to Thetford for the 1st time using .308 and the range officer (can`t think what he was referred to as ) who was signing off the paperwork with our rco was a nice down to earth guy, who was moaning about the high cost we were having to pay to use their facilities for our hobby & was cursing the amount of rabbits & deer. We all had a good day there & I will return there in the future.

to be fair i think our club guy is a bit too boy scout about it but to the letter of the range orders it's shown as .308 and the 303 is .311 ish

last time i was there a guy was using a 223 with 40gr heads , not really a problem except he had one of those new garmin chronographs next to him while he shot giving a readout of velocity well in excess of the range orders visible to anyone walking by at a casual glance

Funny you mention the Garmin as me & my mate were looking to buy one. I see there is a guy on here 3D printeing vovers & we borrowed one to try from the guy at Cambridge gun club. There was also x2 being used when we were shooting so they are quite poplular at the minute.

The same thing has happened here on DoD ranges. The 6.5 CM's higher velocity and longer range, has put the validity of the safety of the impact areas in question. So, they banned it.

<chuckle> And people wonder why the military is always behind in cartridge adoption as well as TTP's. Their dogma and bureaucracy continue to hinder their keeping up with technology and it's associated changes. Unfortunately it takes a crisis (like a bunch of servicemen getting killed needlessly) before there is any motivation to change the current dogma. Same old story, same old results....

Fortunately, we have a lot of military personnel that come out to our range, and they take back what they have seen to their units, which at least begins the rumblings to higher ups, that they are completely out of touch with modernity when it comes to firearms (and their effective employment).

Not necessarily, it does make it advisable to chronograph what your actual MV is as opposed to the hypothetical stuff that manufacturers put on ammo boxes and reloading manuals

I'm pushing 75gr V-Max out at 3,400ft/s on factory loads and just under with home loads

Which can vary widely, since all test barrels are 24", and some use the wrong twist to boot (like .223 with 75gr bullets).

Kinda like this one?
