Exporting Heym rifle from factory

I had Ordered a new Double Rifle from Heym and have now been advised that it is ready.
I had originally discussed and agreed with the guys from the Heym Factory that I would pick up the rifle and fly back home to Tanzania with the gun as checked baggage.
However I'm now informed by Heyms agent Krico that it won't be possible as I will need to ship the gun air freight.
I was trying to avoid this but now it seems I will be forced to have the gun sent out as cargo.
Can I ask if anyone has first had experience with this or any advice to offer.

Can’t comment re Germany or Tanzania law etc., but if you were to collect the rifle from the Factory and take it to the airport I would suggest you will need some form of licence / permit to transport the gun from the factory to the airport. Ie you take possession.

There will then be the matter of export permit etc. from German authorities and import permits etc to Tanzania.

I suggest that leaving it to Heym and their agents may be the best, especially given that many Heyms have gone to Africa and are in the hands of African hunters.
 
Can a German RFD (FFL) not collect it from Heym or have it sent to them and they then hand it over all packed up for travel to your desk clerk at say the Frankfurt airport check-in where you would not actually take possession? Export papers for it would need to be in place though. I once took 110 units from the UK to Germany for my pals gun shop all were papered up and apart from some Dover Harbour Board jobsworths it went smoothly.
 
I agree it should not be complicated bu i'm advised by Krico that I can no longer obtain a customs stamp on the export documents if I try to fly out with the gun.
I was hoping to find another german firearms export house to advise. But no success as yet
 
You will need to get an import permit from Tanzania and then Heym can apply for an export permit. Dont hold your breath! You will have to be a resident in TZ an ecven then it will take time . Alternatively get a German friend to put it on their licence then bring it to TZ on a hunt and then leave it behind and relicence it. Not easy I'm afraid.

I can elaborate a little. I am a resedent in Tanzania, and can easily get the import permit for Tanzania. The issue is on the german side. KRICO whom Heym use have said they can't arrange export permits if I am checking the gun in as luggage, they insist it must go as freight, which I am keen to avoid due to taxation on the TZ side.
I supposeI need another export house in Germany to advise if this is truly the case but unfortunately I don't know of any, and the only one I found from a search is not responding.

I am afraid that will be the case. You cannot travel with it. it has to be shipped.

This might be because if you travel with the gun they may have no evidence you have removed it from Germany. In theory this could be tax related along with many other reasons. If it’s exported and they can prove it then no VAT is likely payable by them.

Avoiding Taxation on the import side - I am afraid death and taxes are part of life and avoiding paying taxes often ends far more expensive. Appreciate that African taxes on some imports are eye watering especially on luxury goods and vehicles.

And for many companies trying to help their clients avoid paying taxes is again simply not worth it.

It's not just tax. It's a headache to import it by shipping it Airfreight.
I normally bring my rifels as checked luggage, verry simple to do, I then convert them to a regular license and pay what I need to pay.
I'm applying in Tanzania for the permit.
Then likely to send it Airfreight as no alternative it seems.
 
Get a German jagdschein holder to take it on by being German resident they get it put onto their WBK (german gun ownership doc) then they fly it down to Tan on a hunting trip as personal baggage and hand it over to you? Someone might with the offer of a low price Africa trip. Fraught with what ifs I know. Ownership being 9/10ths of the law and all that.
