6.5x55 or 6.5 creedmoor

Never shot either, but is there anything to be said about sectional density of 6.5s and harder bullet construction?
Of my 3 deer rifles, the Swede is the one I like shooting the most.
Not the most accurate (that’s the 243) and not the most powerful (that’s the 308) but it’s the most enjoyable to shoot and offers a midway between the tack driving but somewhat explosive 243 and the heavy hitting but harder recoiling 308.

The bullets are longer and hold together well, leaving moderate damage, but more than enough to drop bigger stuff on the spot and with loads available from 100-150gn it’s got one hell of a spread.
The best bit, however, is how it shoots. Not a whack of recoil, more of a push, kind of like a gentlemanly reminder that you have just pulled the trigger (bit like a butler saying ‘good shot, sir’ in a calm voice!!), as opposed to a yobbish punch in the shoulder!!

I could have bought a creedy (as my license states 6.5 calibre) but given I am balding and can no longer cultivate any sort of hair length for a man bun, it was always going to be the slightly boring, yet very well mannered Swede.

Best choice I ever made for a rifle.

Not very creative....using baldness as an excuse for not owning a Creed. Im ugly, scruffy and bald but own one..thats where makeup and a wig come in 😄 😄 😄

It's the 6 of two three's. Almost flip a coin. I have the Swiss and am very happy with it, I did for a while wish id got the creed for the only reason of availability of factory ammo is regularly more available. I now re load for the Swiss and quite happy in carrying on with it. If I was to apply now knowing what I know, I would choose a creed for the only one reason of buying factory ammo is easier and more available IMO
*Swede

7.5x55 is the Swiss.

Yeah I shoot with a guy who has one and he loves it. I've seen .308 from 110 grain to 180 though ;)

I have a swede and love it but my set up is heavy (knocking on in years) so wanted a lighter set up however I could not find a light rife (Carbon stock etc.) available in 6.5x55 that was not a special order SAKO quoting 18mths lead time however 6.5 creedmoor are an off the shelf item with as has been said plenty of ammo availability. So I now have one of each both do the job but using143grn ELDX find there is a lot of meat damage compared to 140grn swede. Now if I'm not going to walk far I take the swede. I took the creedmoor to SA this year and it performed well on plains game.

Similar for me. I always wanted a Swede and finally found a new old stock CZ 550 for a good deal online. I like it alot it balances and points well but it is on the long and heavy side. Not terrible but not something you enjoy carrying around through the woods all day. So I ordered a tikka and the plan was to get in creed but couldn’t help it and got another Swede. It’s got a lighter profile fluted and threaded barrel and the action is so much lighter than the 550. It will be going in a AG Composites stock. Looking forward to getting the tikka project finished.

The choice of rifles and ammunition is much better in the CM.

How many are brand new vs used?
The cm is the current darling of the rifle world and gunshots are pushing them hard, likely because they have bought up lots of units or committed themselves to the same.
It’s kind of like a field of dreams scenario - if you stock them then the customers will come!

How many 17hmr’s are for sale today? Can’t give them away as no one wants them, so is the 6.5cm possibly at risk of becoming the next hmr once the next new fangled chambering is launched and all the cool kids want one in place of their creedy?

Personally, and it’s no secret I wouldn’t pi$$ on a creedmoor if it was on fire!

Just another boring calibre to save the US gun market because nobody was buying any guns, in 100 years time do you honestly think the CM will still exist?

I would put a very handsome bet on the 6.5 x 55, the 7 x 57 will still have a following , that’s if of course that publicly owned Firearms are still in existence😂😂

Indeed - the classic calibres will endure whereas the ‘cool’ ones will likely struggle over time.

As for the SA vs LA ‘issue’, I have both and a don’t really notice any difference apart from a slightly bigger magazine, although the overall size of my 10 round Steyr mag in 6.5se is roughly the same as an aics 10round mag for my 243 or 308 - maybe a bit thicker.

yes , yes it will

the 308 was adopted in the early 1950's even though there was a plethora of similar calibres for example the 30/06 which offered the same performance only in a longer package (like the creed v 55) and it's still popular 75 years later......

the creedmoor is about to be adopted i believe by the military , and the americans i think are adopting the 277 fury (6.8x51) so it seems like it's short actions for the win.............

as you say though this all depends on if firearms are still allowed to be held and used by the public ?

or, (for the conspiracy theorists) what will our allies supply the resistance after societal breakdown

Get back in your cave

Good evening fellow stalkers,

After your opinions (however rogue)...

I'm in the market for a new calibre for stalking, I currently have .243 and 30.06 and my main quarry is Fallow.
The maximuin range on my permissions is 300 yards.

So I've narrowed it down to 6.5x55 or 6.5 creedmoor and am after your thoughts.
Trying to factor in all the pros and cons and still can not decide! 😅

Please don't start your answer with a quip about my husband shooting too!
For me it's all about what the gun / bullet can do.

Thanks in adavance
With these new laws coming in concerning lead I would be looking for a faster cartridge, copper needs speed to work so have a good look at a calibre that’s around the 3000fps
