I did on a previous thread , funnily enough it was ignored, so you really think they’ll tell you why they were confidential? ( we all know why by the way ) I’m afraid the time for please and thank you’s is over in this case as I said previously there is no defence for him or the organisation he is paid by
was the "trouble at the mill" ever disclosed as the police were called and i believe one person left 😱

You may well be right, but what you're failing to see is that the tone and content of these discussions, while doing BASC no favours, is doing us no favours either.
I read posts on these threads that make people who I've previously thought of as moderately decent and intelligent sound like blathering loonies, repeating the same old stuff over and over again, ad nauseum.
The points they're trying to raise may well be valid, but the method of delivery destroys credibility.
By all means say it as it is (or as you think it is), be blunt as you like, but in a way that engenders respect. I think answers would be much more likely then.

I do get your point Tim , so I take on board what you say , however I can’t see us ever getting the answer to that question…..

Lots of replies that have nothing to do with the original question 😄.
But it looks like no one has had any offer of land to stalk over via this BASC scheme for BASC members.
Of course they haven't been offered any stalking it's just designed to get members details to boost membership and as you can see from the posts it is now being used as a mentoring scheme for new members to impress them keeping them sweet and the so called competent Stalkers are doing all the work for BASC free of any cost to them. It's a win win for BASC. some people really need to look at these things before jumping in.

Slave labour under a different cause springs to mind

Why? I take people out on a regular basis, they range from, not done any shooting before to, just need to build up experience. I generally don’t get paid, although, I do now ask for a few pound just to cover my diesel.

So does it matter if they contact me through here? Or am I just lining Malc’s pockets with additional membership here, or if BASC were to put someone through to me.
And someone else said BASC were not the first to do this, so, why not give whoever came up with the bright idea some stick?

And again, oh course it is about membership, EVERY organisation, looks at membership, no members, no organisation. They look at benefits they can offer. I have loads of things I can get discount through work. Damn them to bell for trying to find things that retain staff.

FFS, I was in a motorcycle club and I went around and got us discount at certain motorcycle shops and even cheaper breakdown cover. FOR THE MEMBERS… WHY THE FXXX WOULD I OFFER IT TO NON MEMBERS?

And for the record, I am not signed up to this register. I don’t need the land and I don’t need any other shooters to train.
And this rain better P155 off before this evening or tonight I will practicing to be a competent cider drinker. Again. I am still not very good at it after all these years.

Totally agree with you on the taking people out and learning them how to shoot or stalk I have been doing this most of my shooting career.
In fact most beaters days I opt to stand with someone son daughter grandson or granddaughter so there family member can shoot I get more out of this than any shooting I do seeing them progress.

So let me get this right if BASC membership driven organisation, and their members pay very handsomely for their membership rights, what gives BASC the right to make decisions without full consultation of the members?

Basically, they opened their trap thinking it was a good idea and it bit them in the arse, and all they’ve done ever since is backtrack and try to B/S their way out of a proper 💩 a situation to which it’s failing because they’re constantly reminded and quite rightly so that they ****ed up!
Let's try again - have you ever served on a committee?

Just a few things:-
Lack of transparency.
The AGM is more controlled than the Chinese Communist Party meetings. An example of that was I was at the meeting, I used to go to most of them but came to the conclusion that it was a waste of time, I wanted to vote against John Swift being given life membership, it wouldn't have mattered if I was the only person voting against it, as a long term member I was entitled to a vote, but there was no opportunity to even vote we were just moved on to the next item! A further example, when the agenda moved onto "Matters Arising" our Mr. Cameron stated quite clearly that seeing nobody had submitted written items for this we would move on. Sorry but the whole point of "Matters Arising" is that they are points that cannot be mentioned in advance because they arise from the meeting itself.

I am afraid that I would have more respect if you admitted to some of the errors but I guess you can't. To quote you as members "the staff do not work for us". The members pay the staffs wages who should they be working for.

David.
Best to refer to the BASC constitution in that case.

As regards your comment on staff - BASC members elect Council members and can hold the elected Council to account - the staff do not work for us, they are directed by the CEO who in turn is directed by elected Council members.

In opposition to many on here, I think that BASC are taking the correct stance over lead.
But having said that, I think that in many other ways they're not representative of the average shooter, and there are individual members of BASC staff who's attitude is frankly damaging to shooting sports.
With regard to the register of competent stalkers (which is, after all, what this thread is supposed to be about), I think it was a swift move on the part of BASC to pre-empt another organisation from bringing out a similar (and much more carefully thought out) scheme, and that is an example of one of the problems at the heart of our various organisations: They spend time trying to outdo one another, rather than backing each other up and supporting each other's schemes for the overall good of shooting sports.
Instead of trying to compete, each should stick to what it does best, rather than trying to dominate, or alternatively join forces.
I don't see the organisations doing that. I see them working closely together on myriad policy issues. A good example is the joined up approach to the successful voluntary transition away from lead shot for live quarry shooting.
