A fairly high percentage of violent deaths come from domestic situations. All Firearms Licensing Depts monitor incidents in their area and if there are any involving domestic situations they will check names against Firearm Certificate holders and normally will remove firearms. It is not necessary for the sitution to include violence. Had your wife owned firearms hers would have been removed as well. What I always find "amusing" is that it is nearly always the following day that they take this action. How the situation between you and your wife resolves will decide what happens with your possession of firearms.

I believe it is the best coarse of action let things calm down then take it from a neutral stance should be no problem as long as you have not threatened the wife.

I suppose if you are no longer are staying at the house, even if that is temporary and the guns are registered there and also your gun cabinet is there they have taken them into safe keeping .

Both of you should write down your version of the situation now and sign and date so that is fresh in your mind. Countersign each others where possible if you both agree and think the situation was overstated. Either way get the info on paper for future evidence.

You say they checked the guns in your cabinets and they were all OK. [ In your absence ! ]
They were not OK as they were not secure !

I have been with Cumbria for over 60 years and they are the cream-of-the-team regarding firearm issues, wait and see what develops before slagging them off.

HWH.

I wish you all the best with this Kad but as Stag says how could they check your guns if you were out or have we read this wrong?

You say they checked the guns in your cabinets and they were all OK.

Given the perhaps understandably breathless tone of the OP, I read him as meaing '...they arrived (and) checked (that) my guns (were) in (the) cabinets. All OK.'

I'm sure he'll enlighten us!

If you are saying your wife who is a none certificate holder let the officers attending the

incident visually inspect your firearms you are in breach of security.!!!

(Only authorised persons should have access to any of the keys for any cabinet.)

Meaning you and anyone else should the firearms be on a shared certificate.

I wish you all the best Kaduflyer.

If the fall out with your good lady is done and dusted and she is willing to speak on your behalf im sure you should be in for a favourable outcome..

On the other hand a gentleman i have previously shot with locally had his now ex-wife fone up the police stating he had discharged a firearm in the lounge of the house and it took him 18months to get his pride and joys back.

Despite there being no evidence against him just a bitter ex kicking him where it hurt him most.

Nice and sharp there HWH, who had access to the keys etc

Anyway if your not guilty of any violent act against her, best of luck

B.... H...!!!!
How many p'd off wives would fabricate an issue if they knew it could be so easy to knock the shooting on the head???

Loads. But p'd off wifes are not the only way this can happen. A landowner I know had an incident recently when he saw several young lads throwing stones at his sheep which are on the point of lambing. He and his grandson (20) went out to warn them off. The young lads ran off but went to the local cop shop and reported being assaulted by the landowners grandson. Despite a total denial from the landowner and the grandson along with an explanation as to what they did and what the young lads were up to, the grandson has been charged and his firearms seized. Apparently one of the young lads has a injury that he claims happened when assaulted.

if you left the house and your wife had the keys and showed the police your guns in the cabinet, and if she is not a FAC holder i suspect you wont be getting them back any time soon if at all . but i also suspect that a fair few spouces have or know where the keys are kept, something we all need to think about.

A tip for all, I keep my keys in a digital safe, my wife knows where the keys are but has no idea of the pin number to get into the safe, I work on the assumption that if anything bad happened to me then the police with a locksmith could get into the safe with the keys and then open the gun safes.....

Here comes the next issue, the wife will find a very nice note along the lines of: Well I guess I have passed on for you to read this, sorry for any untruths but PLEASE don't sell these guns for what I told you they were worth, please give our friend XXXXXX a call he will make sure they get sold for the true value, love always :fib:

yes when i got back to the house there were 2 officers there , then the rest of the police force landed all 11 of them asked to search my car as there was nothing in then asked to check firearms which were all locked up secure then left only to have them come back the next day and remove them i can understand but why the next day also they did relate to they didnt want any derek bird incidents do they class everyone as been a psychopath . and since then any contact i have tried to get hold of them they ignore

they had a warrant also the i showed them the firearms the wife has no idea where keys to my cupboards are kept
