THAC Copper Bullets

I would be keen to give these a good go, as I have a 7x57 with a 18” barrel and expansions at 500m/s is easily achieved without thrashing the pants out of it!

I’m getting 2600 FPS out of 150gn Sierra game Kings and 2550fps out of 150gn Barnes ttsx so dropping to 140’s and being a fragmented construction might be the solution to my fallow problem.

That should stop the buggers running!

Hello mate :)

Now I know that i am Going to suggest something that is not fully inline with your current way of approaching non leads, but have you tried the 130 gr Fox hunters ?
I believe @Heym SR20 is using them to quite good effect in his 7x57, and going down just a little in bullet weight/SD vs now just might help with bullet expansion 👍
And with 130s you wouldn't be going super light or fast either, which I know is a path you don't wish to explore 👍🙂

Northallerton shooting supplies stock these THAC, and good reports back from a couple of seasoned stalkers who are using them in creedmoor

I’ve used them in my 270 they are good bullets

Om T H A C The thac homepage, - it is in norwegian, but some browsers i imagine can translate that, easily enough. 👍
Interesting product, perhaps especially for hunters frequently having to shoot at longer rangers, like mountain hunters for example. Some of the Hammer bullets, and i am sure others, work on a somewhat similar principle, right?

Barnes have a few decades of making copper bullets , tested all over the globe . Just saying , they really know what they are doing and gunshop supply + imports are all in place in the UK and most of the world now
Are these a lot cheaper ?
About £20-£30 cheaper per 100

I've been using Barnes LRXs, and will try the Thac bullets as a comparison once I have enough deer shot
Try ttsx 100 and 120 grain from my .260 rem kills big reds well a long way out and still expands, roe etc at short are not mangled either BETTER THAN ANY LEAD I HAVE USED . I am a bit 50-50 about 50 grain copper at longer ranges but sensible stalking ranges fine .
Thankfully we still have time with the small calibers to find a super small deer bullet in copper or its wind the rage inn forever .

I have to agree with your thinking.

Barnes have been at this copper caper for a long long time.

The ttsx driven fast is a very capable bullet.

I loved the 55gr Barnes in my 22-250 but it did lack something at range..

I’ve used thac and the results have been what you want in a bullet.

Very accurate,not absolutely screaming , I settled at 3150 with exceptional accuracy(6.5 284 -122gr thac)

I’m just a little off buying hard to get brands and such

GS custom had the best rep I’d came across for solids and they fell off the face of the earth, this is the reasoning behind me not yet turning fully to thac and perhaps thinking Barnes are the safest bet

Hello mate, all fair points :-) - However i think the thac design (non lead, with intended shedding of petals inside the animal) is more akin to what some hammerbullets designs are like, and i think DK bullets too, and maybe yewtree, than they are to Barnes.
So If one needs a very high BC non lead projectile, that is less reliant on velocity to expand and cause lethal damage upon impact than most of the non fragmenting non leads probably are, then this might be the ticket.
But this is just as i understand its concept, i have not field tested it, in any way. 👍

As for price, their own website lists them as about 148 pound (2000 Norwegian Kroner) for 100 projectiles, but i dont if it is possible for UK based hunters to buy them directly from the norwegian maker.

TTSX driven at mediocre speeds is a very capable bullet, you don’t need to thrash it or drop a weight either.

I've used 100gr TTSXs for an extended period in a CM to very good effect.

I just fancied something different in my PRC for extended ranges when shooting in clearfell.

I used 50gr TTSXs in my 223 for the same time too. Keeping it under 200 yards and I never had an issue.
