Just been garnering a lot of advice and knowledge of some very experienced deer stalkers and hunters, and to a man , every one of them said that for a deer legal calibre, 25-06 is hard to beat, so I’ve taken the plunge and changed my order of my R8 from .308 to 25-06. I know ammo is more difficult to obtain, but two of my good friends are re-loaders and told me not to worry about it influencing my decision. The thoughts of TSD members are very welcome on the topic!

Its not hard to beat
its easy to beat by a lot of cartridges that are much more readily available
There is a reason most of the makers dropped it as a rifle option

270, numerous 6.5s etc etc

I run two as estate rifles
nothing wrong with them
but ammo is a challenge
projectiles are limited
brass is limited

Hi Yosemite Sam, I have a David Lloyd chambered in 25-06. I use it for mountain hunting: Isard ( Pyrenean Chamois ). Always had clean kills up to 300 meter.
I have an old scope, magnification 4, with the crazy scope mount developed by Lloyd that make long shots difficult to handle...
Absolutely no bad comment regarding the caliber: flat, zero recoil, it deserves more than his current status !

There's a 25-06 Sauer 202 in local gun shop. Lovely bit of kit but no good if you want factory ammo.

Great cartridge & absolutely takes anything in the UK with authority. I had (until last year) my Blaser K95 in .25-06Rem & used it exclusively for all hunting. Reds, Roe, Fallow, Sika, Goats & Fox.
I found my barrel performed well brilliantly with Sierra 100gn Prohunter bullets & Nosler Accubond 110gn bullets. I have never bought factory ammunition, always rolled my own.
I used the 100gn bullets on everything except for all Sika & Red stags especially in the rut. If you need reloading help or info message me .. I used my K95 for 22years & it didn't fail once. Your R8 should be just as reliable & accurate. Good luck
