Leatherman or Gerber?

i have a leatherman surge a bit heavy but good strong multitool.
never owned a gerber but have held a couple. they dont seem as well made. bit flimsy

I had a bear grills whats his face gerber i had it for 2 years and within 6 months sent it back as the locking tangs broke it took ages to get a replacment after 6 months that was playing up lose joints and the blade wouldnt hold a sharp edge and as its meabt to be a knife aswell its not much help lolthey may not all be like this i could be very unlucky! so my next buy will be a leatherman

Gerber ease of one handed opening of pliers, I have the old 400 fisherman, olso the new model with the Caribena now that is pointless

My Leatherman WAVE original was replaced under warranty f.o.c. - problem was they sent the "new improved" WAVE - not as good, so I managed to do a trade with someone...so job done

That said, one of THE most under-rated multi-tools is the VICTORINOX

IF I was in the market again I'd get the Swiss made one as I've had poor experiences with the Gerber tools I owned & I'm not a fan of the current Leatherman offerings

Mrs works for the fuzz and they get a victortorinox looks very good not managed to get it off her yet !

Had an original Leather-man super tool. Some sod nicked it. Wife bought me a leather-man wave to replace it. Been great. The leather holster broke as the stitching gave way on the belt loop. So took it apart, riveted the belt loop on with brass rivets then re stitched the thing together by hand. Always carry it with me. Wife has a Gerber which is nice and light but I think I would have broken it by now. She loves it though. But I'd say Leather-man.

Victorinox Swiss tool , amazing bit of kit with a proper leather sheath . Buy one , you won't regret it

Aye, I'm leaning in that direction, the Spirit X I think?

Thats the one , I bought one off a site member a short while ago as a spare , my others one is 10 years old and going strong , like most things from that part of the world , it's not only well made and up to the job , it's also beautifully engineered ! If it goes blunt and your that way inclined , Victorinox will re sharpen it for you , obviously not a problem for the knife but very usefull if you blunt the saw .

as a footnote , the saw on the swisstool makes a cracking brisket saw . And these are the only tool I've had that repeatedly will cut snare wire

I have had a leatherman tool for 15 plus years, and prior had one that I used for 10 plus years at work and hunting. Pliers are like pliers, saw like a saw blades like a top quality blade - awesome IMO
I also like the wenger hunter knife

Got a leatherman at home and the company I work for supply us with Gerbers. The Gerbers are crap, the old leatherman wave I have is brilliant.

Had a gerber and gave it away. My first two leatherman were the original PST.
First one lasted about ten years and was completely worn out.
The file was realy usefull, pity they don't make that model anymore.
Have a Leatherman Fuse now but it lacks the file...

Hiya, I'm on my second Leatherman, only coz some git nicked my first one...I've got a "newer" Supertool...and the old one was the older model, it was sent back to Leatherman in Cumbria under the 25 year warranty, to get a new knife blade fitted, I'd lent it to a guy who was away for a weeks fishing..., who for some reason decided to grind it into a saw blade!!! it came back with every blade replaced FOC, the only thing not done was the casing..then it was nicked....:) I love this newer one too...great bit of kit that is on my belt whenever I'm out shooting..;)
