Roe Rut

Nothing happening here - tried the call on two this morning, both heard it but not interested yet!

It's starting in central belt, watched a buck chasing a doe around a field then called him in with a Buttolo last night.

traveled 30 miles today between permissions, at one the rut is well on at the other, loads of does and no sign of the rut.

What a change ! Out early doors and took 2 nice bucks. The second one couldn't respond to the call any quicker if he had been wearing Nike !

Returned from South Ayreshire yesterday afternoon - saw a doe running round like a scolded cat trying to get a buck interested with no luck, so mature does on their own & bucks on their own - all in all not much activity.. :???:

Out again this weekend with two members off this site. Took two bucks, one very nice one off a small farm I have, the other off my main lease. We also saw a gold medal head running with 4 doe's on one field, however no serious rutting activity yet, but its close to breaking out. Over the past three extended weekends I have had 7 clients and 6 bucks.

Between the two clients and two guides we counted some 20 Roe this past Saturday night, with persistent rain and some thunder and lightning. This cleared and the whole area was similar to a rain forest. The deer are still moving late, and all of the doe's are in fine condition.

Out yesterday seen plenty of animals bucks and does no action at all, most of the does hadn't even got a buck in attendance. All young bucks no big boys showing at all yet.

Not seen any chasing but bucks started responding to the call. Called that one in last night.

I am finding the rut in Hampshire to be a mixed bag - within a farm, some woods are mid-rut with bucks chasing doe's and coming to a Butallo very quickly - other areas there is nothing going at all. Very strange and the first time in 5 years we have seen such a difference in a farm area.

Much the same with us on our patch of Herefordshire. Yesterday morning couldn't get any reaction to the call on separate farms. Different patch in the afternoon, bucks chasing does and responding to the call.

went out with client last Friday, saw 3 does and no buck, tried my old buttalo and no reaction or sign of any buck, so I tried my newly acquired Rottumtaler (Lee6.5 put me onto them, thanks Lee) and I didn't get it quite right and they ran off into the woods. next evening back out onto different farm, used buttalo, we called a buck to within 5 yards, sadly he was the other side of a thick hedge and couldn't get through, we could hear him breathing!
This morning went back to first farm, no sign of any roe in the hot spot so started to use the buttalo, within just a few seconds a doe appeared being followed by a buck, he did the deed and they both lay down in the thick grass, the buttalo just wouldn't get them to stand, but I had practiced with the rottumtaler over the weekend and used it, first call up gets the buck and he starts walking in our direction, client didn't hang around, nailed it at 130 yards.
here is the link, the chap, Andreas, is a great guy to deal with http://www.stalkinggear.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=21&products_id=146

Saw a buck chasing a doe this morning he responded to the call and trotted 300m towards me and stood facing on at 60m dropped it with a neck shot, I thought I was filming the whole thing which would have been good but instead of switching the camera on I was already filming so I had switched it off :cuckoo:

Was out last night with a friend near Selkirk. We seen 8 does two with young over the evening. He managed to call a doe with his buttolo to about 30 yards. Not long after this I managed to get a doe and two fawns to about 20 ft from me with the Nordik Call. Great evening however not a buck to be seen.
