Hi, all. I've got a Remington 700 sps in 7-08. I like it, hits like a .308, shoots flatter & less recoil :-D I've put it in a Boyds thumbhole stock. Just wondering how many on here use 7-08 & what powder and bullet weight you use?

I have a 260 which I was considering 7-08 for once the barrel is shot out , with the same bullet weight how much flatter is the 7-08 than the 308?

Dont think it really matters for stalking at normal deer stalking ranges. For paper or long range target shooting maybe. There is also the ammo cost/availability side of things to take into consideration.

I use 139gr Hornadys & 140gr game kings over IMR 4064. Gives me 3/4 inch at 100. Even better with a high mag scope on.
Any one tried ramshot big game?

Hi,built up a 7mm-08 recently, Sako A2 action, timney trigger(the sako one was very poor tried to sort it, failed) Bergara Barrel and Bell And Carlson Stock. Still experimenting with loads, been having pressure problems with N140....C.

mine is a semi custom tikka m595 with a walther lother fluted chromoly barrel fluted and coated bolt and reworked trigger, all blued with a factory tikka delux stock hand oiled and finished myself!

My 2 only get factory rounds,The tikka 595 synthetic likes federal fusion 140grain and the sako 75 likes hornady superperformance 139sst.

I have taken delivery of a semi custom tikka, shot federal fusion 140 grain well when it was zeroed, just not had chance to shoot anything yet, been to busy with game shooting and wild fowling.

Although using a slightly different calibre, 6.5-06, (well, OK, a lot different), the Sierra 140 GK is the dogs danglies.

Mostly will be those who reload!!

I do. Tikka T-3 Lite using H-4350 and Sierra 150 grain GK. Only fired it once in anger and it did the job.~Muir

FWIW I've owned several 7-08's and 260's the 7 with a 140 grain bullet and the 260 with a 120-130 grain billet are pure poison on deer . I know this because I've used both quite a bit . Fir me the 260 hand loaded with Nosler 125 grain Partitions was an A#1 deer killing bullet .

I use a 7mm-08 which is a Sako 85 action which was blueprinted and 24" Walther barrel sat in a laminated thumb hole stock. All done by Specialist Rifle Services. A bit heavy but shoots a dream. I use 120gr Nosler ballistic tips mainly with RL15 but also have had great results with 140gr Accubonds and RL17.

Have had a Remmy 700 Varmint Special for years. Only just really used it the last 3 seasons on longish range fallow from a high seat which covers a fair few spots where they like to appear. Been using Remington factory 140gr which worked just fine, very flat and hard hitting. Now they've all gone I'm going to try working up a load using Privi gromms.
