17hmr recommendations

Wondered if anyone had any recommendations for a 17hmr for vermin control. Preferably synthetic stock. Budget around £500

I’ve a little used t1X in a grs for slightly over your budget, or in your budget with the standard t1X synthetic stock,

I’ve got a T1x in 17hmr and am very pleased with it. Good value for a new gun. You might pick up a second hand one for your budget but I’d suggest you save up between now and the 🤞🏻 grant for a new one.
Hope this helps

Problem with the 17hmr is finding good quality rounds the last two years have been terrible with the quality of the rounds being produced
Its not the quality so much, just an inherent manufacturing trait of the design.

The fix is easy. Inspect the ammunition prior to shooting and disregard any that look like this.

I've been doing it for years now and do not have any issues in the field.
You might get three or even fifteen in a box but it dont matter compared to a bad stoppage etc.

I brought 3 box's of winchester about a month ago and every single one was split, and I've had lots of hornady getting stuck down the barrel

Cz are nice for the money. I've got two 452s in 17hmr (varmint barrels). Very cheap second hand. 455/457 as well. Obviously loads of good choices though.

Not had any issues with 17hmr ammo. I use remington.

Split cases AFTER firing are not a worry. Discard the ones prior to firing, no more blockages.

Remington case also should be inspected. They are made at the same plant as hornady are.

As said above, the CZ range (essentially a mini Mauser design) are simple, reliable, accurate and can inexpensive. £500 would give you a good budget for a higher end scope included. The ammo is variable, I’ve found Remington to be dependable along with FMJ CCI. But, always check for splits.

I use the 17 grain Winchesters - super accurate in my Tikka T1X and (touch wood) I’ve had no issues and no split necks either. CCI 20 grain have also proven good but not quite as accurate.
