2 calibres

i run a 260 rem ( 6.5 ) and a 223 rem . To be fair 260 works fine on all UK deer but 223 is lighter and 260 is too much for the smaller ground game but the 223 can go onto Scottish Roe and CWD , Muntjac in England and Wales
I dont really feel there is much advantage in the real world what deer rifle we choose for UK use after 243 win and whatever else larger / more powerful , its all about the person using it and the right bullet A good bullet selected and the 243 can and does go clean through a Red stag further than most will shoot at the beast
The deer act ( amended ) Is fit for purpose , though i might personally like to use my 22 Hornet if it was legal as i would like to shoot Roe in England /Wales with it

A 222/223 or 243 - all do pretty much the same job. Probably err on the side of 243 as it is all deer legal.

7x65R just to be different and I love my combination gun. If it was a bolt then 7x64. Much as I really like the 7x57, the 7x65r and 7x64 are just a bit flatter shooting and can handle bigger bullets a little better and a touch longer point blank range.

If you could have only 2 calibres, one for small deer and one for large deer, what would you choose and why?
.22.250 is a definite for me, and oh well I like my 25.06+.270+.260 ack+.284 win+.7mm rem mag so it’s a hard choice? Probably the old bomb proof 7mm rem mag(no much likes that thrown at them). But if I didn’t load then .270 for easiness.

I now have just one "deer rifle" - I know, how could I?
Well, not strictly true, I have two;
First, a very recently acquired 6.5 PRC which is now my go-to for all deer, as well as an occasional range rifle - yet to bag its first deer. Hopefully that'll change very soon though.
Second, I also have a .375H&H which luckily enough is cleared for deer & AOLQ, just in case the 6.5PRC can't bowl those super tough Muntjac over.
Does anyone else remember all those threads years ago about "bullet proof" Muntjac? They were good for a laugh
I can't promise I'll increase my armoury again but I can't promise I won't either
If I do I'll likely go for yet another .30cal of some sort, I've owned a few over the years

For me as being deer legal on Roe, it's 223 and it does a brilliant job at it too.

For the big deer I have the 6.5CM and I haven't had any complaints from them.

I do fancy a 6.5-284 though to replace the 6.5CM for shooting across clearfell.

I currently have a 6x47 lap and 6.5 SAUM.
Which cover everything nicely.
However I do miss having a 7mm.
I think I will always own a 6mm of some sort as I love this bullet as a real all rounder.
Paired with a 7mm mag of some description.
Either SAUM, PRC or LRM this combo covers everything while super accurate and fun to shoot.

I do like my 6mmXC too, I've yet to shoot enough deer for it to take place of my 223 yet.
