Good points, also there's the availability or not of non-lead ammunition.Get a .30-06 instead.
.25-06 is great but difficult to get ammo for, when you can it's expensive.
.30-06 ammo is more available, cheaper and in a much greater range of weights etc.
Plus, .270 is DEFRA's minimum recommended calibre for boar so with .30-06 you're okay for shooting pigs.
And with 25-06 you’re ok shooting pigs..... or 6.5 or .243Get a .30-06 instead.

25-06 , flat shooting, accurate, great for all species of deer. 100gr ballistic tip, easy to get and reload. Never bought factory ammo. Get one , you’ll love it !
Fast, flat and furious. There is very little to dislike about something that launches a 100gr bullet at 3,300fps.
.25-06Rem. Superb cartridge for everything in the UK and beyond. Fast, flat & accurate. Brilliant if you load your own ammo.
So superior to .243Win. No contest!
Not much fun for tracking dog, things just drop on the spotWhat more could I add!
‘And with better bullets could do even more’ and there’s the rub![]()
25-06 Remington Beats 6.5 Creedmoor? — Ron Spomer Outdoors
The little known 25-06 Remington can outperform the 270 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor, and with better bullets could do even more.www.ronspomeroutdoors.com
I had a 25-06. Very accurate, only home loads used. Killed a lot of roe, red and sika. It killed them very well. I don't think I would have another one though. I would recommend looking at the various bullets within the weight range of bullets you want to use. Look at the bullets that kill well and with a high bc. Then look at the case design. Look at what target shooters are using and why they are use them. You want the same qualities as they do with the addition of a good killing bullet. I don't think you will see many guys using the "06" case for serious target stuff. Keep in mind the non lead bullet issue. That's what I done when I had shot my 25-06 out and it lead me to get it rebarrelled in 6.5-
