Just to update
Bought an ex display/ex demo Browning Xbolt 2 Nordic variable stock with fitted Minox scope and Stalon mod as new for £1100.
Weather has been so crap I haven’t zero’d yet.

68K as in 68 000 shots? Sounds a bit suspect to me. I have read of 10 000 shot figure for 308win barrel life before though.

We had two 308 barrels, one had a 62k shot count, the other 68k. Both six years old. Why are you suspect? Simple question.

Simple answer, because I read an article in the Swedish gun magazine Vapentidningen more than a few years ago about barrel life in 2 blasers at a shooting cinema. The 30-06 barrel was toast at 6k shots and the 308win done at either 10 or 12k. That's all.....

Ah, of course. Well now you’ve read the opposite, you doubt the better outcome. The current barrel in every day use has a 15k shot count and is still shooting better than sub MOA. I wonder how that can be?

I would suggest that a round count of 6800 is more believable.
I have a Steyr SSG04 with 2600 rounds through the tube and it shoots as accurately as it did with the first shot. A certain amount of throat erosion has occurred as expected, but the hammer forged barrel is holding up well. Saying that ... it does get very well looked after.

What you believe is irrelevant. When I retired the barrels after 10 years of usage, I asked Blaser if they would like the barrels for inspection, their reply was that they had barrels with higher round counts.

One of the reasons I use Blaser rifles daily on the range is their incredible durability, we use at least 300 rounds a week, often more. By your reckoning I’d be replacing a barrel every year!

On top of this, the rifle is cleaned every day with a simple pull through system made by Jakele. The current barrel has never been de-coppered, because it still shoots how it did when it was new in 2024.

In other bad news, Santa doesn’t exist!

Let turn this the other way up - seeing as this is a woodland rifle - a nice older rifle and a very nice contemporary scope.

300 rounds a week is 156,000 rounds in ten years, assuming no breaks.

Normal CF rifle barrel, not a chance in hell. Maybe if .308 and not shot fast and hot or in strings it could get to 20k

I bought a Sako 90 Adventure start of the year in .308, if I had the money I would upgrade all my rifles for this model.

Mainly for woodland and hight seat work, knees too shot for the hill.

Irrespective of the above I would like to consider an adjustable stock and shortish barrel. But not keen on the look of many of the chassis type stocks, prefer to be a bit more traditional.

So whilst trying to keep an open mind, all suggestions / pointers welcome.

Am thinking of letting my steyr scout go. I use it for exactly what you want. Can come with dpt over barrel mode and an arken 4-16x44 scope if required
