6.5 Swede vs Creed?

I assume you mean the modern SE/SKAN 6.5x55 version rather than the old military “Swede” but that is cracking on some. For example,
Viht’s admittedly conservative data comes nowhere near 3400 fps for conventional 108gns bullets - 3189fps being fastest so interested to know if are there any pressure signs?

Additionally I’d have thought case capacity issues may arise? I dunno maybe with different powders but I use a drop tube and get 49.3gn of n555 in just for about 3030 fps out of a 24” barrel and 114gn bullet. (No pressure signs in my rifle and I have shot literally 1000s of this load in three rifles).

That’s blistering, can I just ask , as not much of a reloader, are there two protocols for loading the x55 ? One for the newer and another for the old Swedish Mauser.

49.6g RS60

Zero pressure signs. I must emphasise it’s a long, fast barrel that gets the most out of the load. It really flattens big reds, I never really notice much difference between it and my .308 re runners.
What twist is the barrel please

I bet it really stings!

It does. I had a 25 06 for a lot of years but when the barrel was toast I made the switch to 6.5 as it’s just easier to sort for non lead. I wanted to keep the characteristics of the 25 in a more easy-to-feed format. I debated 6.5x284 but the lack of a factory option put me off-so a long barrelled swede was decided upon.

Performance wise it’s as good as anything I have used. Bang flops are usual, big reds will take a few steps. Had one just shy of 150kg (giant 4 pointer, gone back) and it exited and he only went 6 yards. Impressive with such a light pill. The slight idiosyncrasy is small exits, potentially owning to shedding petals-but as mentioned they don’t go far so it’s a moot point.

If you homeload I think very little difference, obviously the slightly bigger case on the Swede means you can shove more powder in

In my Swede I'm now in the second season of using Yew Tree 114 gr TLR. Pushing them at 3150fps they are doing everything I have asked of them so far

I use the 6.5 x 55 case necked out 1mm to push 150 grain .30 bullets at 2900 fps using 48 grains of IMR4895. Not a barrel burner but not bad.

That’s also very fast whats your load and barrel length the best I can do with tlr bullets is 3030fps

Really? I gave a mate 400 empty cases once fired twice in the last ten years so he could trade them for something else!
Good for you! But in the US, where 6.5 Swede is rare and 6.5 CM is not, my point still stands. And since manufacturers tend to make what is popular, and the bulk of what the UK gets is what the US makes....🤔

If there is indeed a shortage coming down the pipe, due to all the conflicts, I can guarantee you the 6.5 Swede will get cut from production long before the Creedmoor does.

I only wish that was the case, these days the bulk of what the U.K. gets is European, the bulk of what is on back order is from the US

Now that 6,5 x 55 is the 'national caliber' here in Sweden there are always stacks of empty cases all over the shooting ranges.
This is not the thread but a lot of discussion here of both 6,5 Swede and the Cr beeing slighly too weak now that boar is common.
This has also to do with copper shooting as these bullets have lower density and therefore lighter. Many hunters skip 6,5 and go for 308.
