Alternative to Land Rover products.

All vehicle manufacturers are humping the prices to crazy amounts driven perhaps by their suppliers wanting profits also plus a lot of suppliers cr@p comes from China, presently the long way around the cape of good hope due to various Suez / Jemen issues.

"close to a defender price" ? Basic Karoq starts at about half the price of a base Defender. It sure isn't a LR but its a handy bit of kit.

whats a brand new defender cost?
I've been offered brand new @ 54k, but perhaps I should have been more specific. I'm either going to go premium with a defender 90 or budget vehicle with a target price of sub 30 k. Duster 3 4x4 would have fitted the bill if it was available in diesel and I'm afraid that the lack of this option is a deal breaker. Balance of probability I'll swallow the financial cost of the defender unless another option becomes apparent. Pretend 4x4s that people do the school run in are useless so not an option

New Ford Bronco? If they will do RHD. 2,7 Ltr. - 246 kW EcoBoost V6 81.890 €.
I'm sure I saw an interview with the Ford CEO recently where he had been testing one of the latest high end Chinese SUV offerings. He said it was so good he didn't want to give it back!

Why are you set on a diesel? Especially in something as small as a Duster where it's barely 100bhp so not much good for towing.

Modern diesels seem to be so complex, more expensive and useless unless doing lots of miles and long journeys now that they have to meet so many regulations.

Better torque at low revs, far superior off road than gut less high revving petrol and I can't stand the stink of it either

Which makes sense in a big heavy vehicle especially if you're towing and spending most your time off road, but that's not what the Dacia is. It seems odd to discount it just because of no diesel option and the smell of petrol.

Not specifying you but most people want a big comfy vehicle for driving on road and massively overestimate how much 4X4 off road performance they need and would make use of, especially because they have no intention of using off road tyres.

I did give serious thought to the Duster 3 but I just can't bring myself to pay 26k for a gutless petrol engine that if it doesn't leave me stuck in a field will significantly increase journey times on trunk roads and motorways. Unfortunately the 1.3 tce engine is significantly less powerful than the diesel version Duster 2

Just a silly question, but has anybody tried a 4x4 Fiat Panda. Just for the odd deer? I know one lad who says they are good off road.
Asking for the wife (but I'll probably use it too🤣).
Great car, superb handling and very capable. I had one on test drive. However, the boot is too small to be useful.

It’s a sports car not an off-roader is how Porsche described it to me. It’s a great family car to me that is fun to drive, 0-60 in 5.2s and sticks to the road in way a big car shouldn’t they did a great job imho.

Sounds very much like my paupers Porsche equivalent (SQ5) same performance and handling abilities

I’d be wary of the later Audi (all variant manufacturers) who use the 3.0 v6 Diesel as they dropped oil pressure to increase MPG

Plenty of reports of failed engines

There’s a fix via software map for sub £250 I understand

Doesn’t affect my engine model apparantky as it was an early one

Yes there are petrol versions too but I have had no engine or emmission issues with the 3ltr diesel engines I have had even secondhand.
Hi.
Are you giving your Audi plenty of long runs that keep emissions systems healthy? I do plenty of short journeys that worry me with diesels.

I sw a video earlier where the tester was cruising at 62mph with the V8 diesel model and getting over 64mpg.
My Freelander shows some nice mpg figures when driving, especially just after I reset the computer function and I’m cruising along a motorway.
In reality, if I get 30 mpg I think I’m doing good.
Ken.

I am not surprised when you pick the 500HP version you can't have it always you know Ha Ha.

It’s 313 bhp but quite “alive” when the loud pedal is pressed

I’m not really bothered about mpg to be honest

Puts a smile on my face when I drive it (when I can wrestle the keys from my wife ). 😂
