Beaters wages

£35 plus tea coffee and a cracking meal at lunch and if they want birds they can have a couple of brace and best of all they get to be shouted at all day lol

It is shocking when you think what people will pay to shoot pheasants etc but yet a beater only get £25 - £30 a day

I'm with teyran here i think it is a disgrace how pityful the wages are!! I hoped this whole tax thing would help but just the same old

But i'd also say it is vastly different on a small family or mates shoot were u are appreciated and treated well.

But if a shoot is making money and ran on a commercial basis they should be paying a proper wage!! No other business can hire a skilled person, with dogs and 4x4 for 20-30 quid, try offering a bricky or plumber that, most will charge that an hour.
Some off these shoots are shooting 80-100+ days, if they paid a decent wage that could help sustain a PT keeper, but u cannot survive on 30 quid a day running a team of dogs and a pick up.

i go on my mates grouse moor , i get £45 but before anyone is allowed to beat ,flank ,or pick up the estate office reqiures you to submit your NI number and tax details , it has put a lot off i can tell you !

my beaters get £31 and picker up's £39, tea and bacon rolls on arrival, soup and rolls for lunch and as many birds as they wont, NI and tax details taken. for our records only.

Beating is £25 and Picking up is £30 to £35 on an average in our area.
My beaters get a tenner plenty of food and drink soup pasties and birds if they want .also beaters day a walk round on the 1st feb and as many fallow and muntjac as they can shoot :D

Give me a shout if your short Norma I could do with some free Fallow stalking :D

most people do it for the enjoyment and not to make money out of. nobody forces anybody to go beating. I do agree some shoots take the p**s on what they pay but if like us you have 15 beaters 7 pickers up plus food and drink there is £850 gone straight away before a bird is shot. and if its just a 150 bird day at £30 per bird =£4500 less your £850 for beaters leaves £3650 by the time you take into account price of the birds and feeding and keepers wages it just don't add up and can not afford to pay higher money.

I used to get paid £20.00 a day 20 years ago, which for a lad was a pocket full of loot . . it hasnt gone up much really has it?

Our lads get £25 beating, £30 picking up, with tea and coffee, sausage rolls, port or whiskey mac to drink.
Birds if they want any, and two days at the end of the season.

I thought that bit would hook a few more I may even do a boar drive for free this season lol .

That'd be the deal breaker for me. Glad to see that some shoots are looking after the beaters.

the limitless amounts of chilli, rice and homemade sour cream helps to make the day mate, but not as much as getting a radio when picking up to hear your voice go up a few octaves on some of the drives!!! He he....

On one shoot I beat on it costs me about twenty quid to go. By the time I've paid staff to cover me at work and fuel. But i dont do it for the money its about the day out having a laugh and i get to go where I want on the shoot shooting deer, foxes, geese and rabbits. So for me it's a win win

Grouse £40 tax paid (pheasant/partridge days the same) on one estate
Another estate which is an easier day £35 tax paid
Tight fisted small grouse moor £25 and dragged out to make the guns think they are getting value for money (which they don't)

It's not good enough.
I got £25 ten years ago and 2x beaters days on one of the top ten shoots in the country where both days were in excess of 300 birds. This place we got shafted last year as they shot 2x days before beaters day.
If they want proper beaters and not some muppet that just wants to walk down rides then it's about time they paid.

Has the weather been bad down south today as we seem to have a few angry guys from down in that part of the country on the site tonight.

Sorry mate but if the pay is so poor and you dislike the owners so much why don't you simply not go, after all you've already said you don't need the money. I've got to the point in life when it's not worth getting upset over such matters. It's really not worth getting het up about it.

on the estate i beat for -£25 with a dog bring your own food/drink 1 day in january keepers day -but best of all i get access to 14000 acres for the foxing/pigeon/rabbit shooting all year round.you cant put a price on that!been going for 18yrs.

The problem is he's my best mate. I often run the line for him. I feel like I'm letting him down, I couldn't give a toss about her.
So I've phoned him and told him I'll do it for him if he's short on numbers, but other than that I'm out.
