Best Calibre for Deer with Copper Bullets

7mm RM would fit the bill.
And if the OP chooses this I have some brand new cases for sale !

Personally, I think it depends on which type of copper bullet…. I would say a cutting edge/virtus/yewtree or any of the CNCd bullets have superior bc and virtus have different models so if you have either a lower velocity short range rifle (eg 300blk) or shooting out further choose one which expands easier (merlin). Id be very surprised if they didnt perform at those ranges but why not give them a message. I can tell you without hesitation all of the research you are doing has been done already by multiple factors. Virtus

I find my 308 very versatile. You cant go wrong with 308. Exceptional accuracy with above copper, and I use them when specifically required by landowner.

I wouldnt give upnon 6.5 yet-there are plenty of options.

No such answer exists ! What you need to know is at what impact speed does the expected expansion and or fragmentation de- grade to " none satisfactory" in your chosen bullet.
I prefer 100 TTSX 6.5 at 3300 fps its good to 400 yds but gets iffy for expansion after that 120 is ok but i get 2850 fps with that one so its a slower expander I haven't killed enough with those to really have the data but after 300 i probably would not take the shot
Been working with the 50 grain eCX from Hornady 200 max even targets show it runs out of steam quick with a low BC , havent really much deer info on it yet but i dont want my dog tangling with the fanged deer so i am going for DRT only shots

In fairness this far the 6.5 does as well. Bullet design will also change massively over the next 10 years and the 6.5 due to its popularity will likely see changes first.

I’m not a Creedmoor fanboy. It’s a cartridge that performs well like any other. It’s just a means to propel a bullet into an animal.

If I can squeeze a bit more speed out of it then I’ll likely keep it.

That all being said, I do still like the 270 and like the traditional cartridge. It’s a lot of money to change cartridges though. So I’ll probably shoot this one out first.
