Best way to dispose of a rifle, mod, scope etc.

Not used my rifle since last August for a variety of reasons and my circumstances wont change in the immediate future so am thinking of getting rid of my outfit.

Any views on the best way to get rid of a rifle outfit to get the best price. Am I better of private sale, commission sale, auction sale or P/X against a PCP or a Sporter?

TIA

The sum of the parts sold separately is usually more than the thing sold all together. Plus of course there's no licence needed to buy a 'scope or it's rings and mounts. But give how little the rings and mounts might make you could perhaps sell the rifle with them still in place.

Good luck and don't delay in getting it advertised whichever approach to disposal you adopt.

The sad truth is there's not much of a market for used rifles unless they are of recent manufacture and similar modern chambering. That or the rifle is a particularly nice example of a 'classic' that may be used on Sundays and Range Days.

Sadly so true for both rifles and shotguns. I bought a s/h Remmy 1100 probably 40 years ago for £150 - probably couldn't sell it for that now...

You say immediate future and not used since August. That’s really not that long a time. Given all the fun and games of licensing and acquiring a rifle I would just make sure its clean and well oiled and leave it in the cabinet. When it comes to your next renewal and your circumstances haven’t changed and or / you have no desire to continue stalking then let it go.

I have had periods in my life when I haven’t used a gun for well over a year and the FEO fully understood.

Yes I had a leg injury that made it seem like I would never walk again, let alone shoot. But eventually it resolved and I got back to shooting and luckily I had kept my rifles, so if possible I would suggest to try to hang on to your rifle since it is such a hassle to start over.

Points taken folks, think would rather have the cash or a better clay gun which I would use.

Will have a think.

You'll make the best money selling each item separately on here. Easiest way is to take it to your local RFD and ask them to sell it for you.

As others have said it does very much depend what it is as to how to dispose. A wood and blue in anything un trendy might take a year to sell privately. Might be worth looking to trade in if you want a clay gun. But then again the gunsmiths may only send it to holts and give you that money for it.
Even high end German scopes seem difficult to sell at the moment
