I have had a german partner for 37 years now so have met many germans through her and my work they have put behind them the stupidness of their parents generation and have almost 100% moved on, we brits seem to wallow in the past and the past cannot be brought back, it happened I lost relative that I never got to know my partner also. Just lets stop this nationalist bullishness from rising again.
Another point kind of connected though to this thread is that I started at a luxury UK car firm last monday and almost all the leather workers are Polish, funny that!
The past provides the context for the present and establishes what is reasonable.
The hackneyed trope that the British more than other nations live in the past is utter nonsense. The EU exists primarily as a reaction to the past and its advocates all argue that as its greatest virtue.

OK, this may be a controversial point, but this was a long time ago. Doesn't mean it doesn't matter, but things have moved along quite a lot since 1945. And it's not like the rest of Europe didn't suffer too. That's the whole point. Not to let it happen again.

I mean you don't have a debt of gratitude to a nation for ever and ever. Neither is it legitimate to berate old enemies for ever. I mean otherwise we'd never move on.

So where is the dividing line then, one you'd be happy with ?
Not forgetting the french aided attacks on british forces by the argentinians.
For which I will not forgive your country in my lifetime, and I dare say the same goes for anyone
who lost family and friends in that conflict.

if this gets any more personal its going to be removed.

For Christ sake we all fought wars with one another at one time.............how far back do you want to go.

The Napoleonic Wars 1803-1815.....:-D....................................... had absolutely bugger all to do with Brexit!

Brexit it is going to happen no matter what anyone thinks and no body despite what they say knows what is going to be the result .We are all going to have to wait and see.

Tony

But then we (the British people) have just rejected them (the rest of the EU). The sense of betrayal (justified or not) cuts in all directions.

Not quite. We did not reject France (or the French), Germany (or the Germans), or any other of the EU member states or their people. We rejected the supra-national EU, and many other European citizens share our view.

Quite so ! + 1:thumb:
And an unelected body of EU politicians as well as a further layer of MEP's, also the road to a 'Federal' state(s) of europe.

+1. A friend living in France tells me it is expensive/difficult to start a business in France. He seems to think you have to pay a years projected tax in advance.

They are having to pay c£120 a month for his wife's health insurance.

A: I have friends in France who set up a timber treatment business in France and they had no problems but of course you have to comply with their rules

B: Theres a reciprocal health agreement between the UK and France whilst we are in the EU so there's no need for health insurance unless you want private medical cover just like in the UK

911 alone accounted for 2996 deaths, pretty much all civilians!!!.............

What on earth does the USA have to do with the UK and the EU?

The USA drone strikes and military action have killed countless numbers but again sod all to do with UK

Also note that the total number of Juhadist / Muslim related deaths in the USA is simply dwarfed into insignificance but the number of deaths due to extreme right wing home grown terrorists.

May announces that 1000s of EU laws will be converted into UK laws????

This whole "lip service" to the Brexit mob thing is going to be very expensive.

She will announce a big step in regaining some mythical Parlimentary Soverignty losses???? whilst actualy not changing the laws at all??

In doing so, acheiveing nothing and getting us no where at huge expense to the tax payer

Makes you proud to be Brittish

Actualy no hang on, it doesnt does it.

I'll tell him he's wasting his money. His wife's just had a knee replacement. The surgeon reckons it is too dodgy to operate for her back problem.

The "WORLD", believe it or not, does not start and finish in Europe!!!

A question for those who are happy to be leaving: if brexit doesn't lead the UK into a jam-filled tomorrow of permanently sunlit uplands, what do you think the downside is likely to be?

At least it will be our problem and we will be in control of our own destiny......why do you think the rest of Europe are so upset about us leaving??

The French health care system reimburses a part of the patients' medical costs (typically 70%), leaving the balance to the patient to recover via his/her private insurance. The reciprocal arrangement means that a Brit in France pays the same as a French person so private health insurance is advisable.
