Bullet heads

Unfortunately even some RFD's use these terms nowadays so we are truly doomed.

I had a conversation with an RFD once reference just this point and he said "I've had it happen in the past where I've had a phone call asking if I've got any ??? bullets in stock, and I've said yes. When the customer turns up and I show him a box of bullets, he gives me a blank look and says "I wanted bullets, what are these?". What he wanted was loaded ammo. so now it's just easier to say bullet heads".
I too despair, but I just quietly grind my teeth.

Bullets is a term used to prove your superiority over lesser mortals. Only the elite, the best of the best, can use the term. The Peacocks at range days proves it.

Is it really that offensive or important to use bullet heads etc?

Heads: A Naval term/word meaning ‘Toilet’
Bullet: The projectile component fired from a loaded cartridge.

Turn up at your local garage, ask them to replace the brake discs when you really mean tyres and see if your choice to use the incorrect terminology really matters!
you can call Bullets “fairy lights” if you want. Doesn’t mean that the rest of us have to join in with renaming things that already have a correct name!!

All the more reason to try to get people to use the correct terminology, educate them or ask if the mean loaded rounds, or projectiles.

Your ok with them as they are referring to the plastic pointy end of the bullet, not the whole thing. We should let that ride, you are spared!

This may help any newbys to cartridge terminology

Surely that would be "You're". I also suspect that the plural of "newby" is "newbies".

The use of "bullet heads" makes me want to sit in the corner and cry. I also find it incredible that there are so many of my peers who can't wrap their arms around the correct use of "your" and "you're", "to", "too" and "two" and "there", "their" and "they're". The school I attended was pretty rough and was eventually burnt to the ground. The correctional officers there were keen on grammar though. :D

Unfortunately that is one of the problems with using an I phone with an auto-correct that does strange things. Combined with not proof reading what I have written, a disaster waiting to happen

The use of the phrase "Not worth dying in a ditch over" ........... reminds me of this older one, " Send three and four pence, we are going to a dance" just a small mistake can cost quite a lot.

Ha! Actually, having read and enjoyed many of your posts, I realised it was probably something like that. The Pedant Police will offer you a caution and entreat you to type safely. On you go, sir. :)

Nope, bullet is the correct term, anyone can use it.

Agreed, and you can add "should of" instead of "should have" to the list, plus my personal teeth grinder "expiration" instead of "expiry"
Trying to read some posts on this forum and many posts on other shooting forums is made much less enjoyable and the impact of the post greatly reduced when they contain poor spelling and grammar.
Unfortunately there are some contributors who don't seem to understand that writing and speaking are two separate and different skills and that writing what you speak frequently makes what you write difficult to comprehend.
It also appears that some contributors actually revel in their poor spelling and grammar and are offended when their shortcomings are pointed out.
On another shooting forum I frequent, a long and rambling post appeared which contained neither full stops or capital letters.
Deciphering what the contributor was trying to say was near impossible.
When I responded by saying that capital letters and full stops would have made the post more understandable, the contributor immediately accused me of bullying!!

Cheers

Bruce
