Can anyone please let me know if I should be using copper ammo 100% of the time now, a havent seen any legislation suggesting this but is it now best practice within the shooting community? Mixed deer stalking and foxing, assuming betterment if carcass for food chain. any help appreciated lads?

cheers for the prompt response on this one fellas. am in Scotland so am guessing that doesn't make any difference that you know off? is there a huge difference in cost moving to copper, a never take any notice when buying ammo

Forestry Scotland land only copper along with some other land owners
As long as your land owner isn’t bothered then just carry on

Really depends on whether you want to put lead into your own, your family, the general public’s and the wildlife that eats the gralloch etc food chain.

Additional cost of the ammunition is offset by a much cleaner carcass and better meat recovery. Whether you take this into account depends on where you send the venison.

With lead I would generally through away at least one of the shoulders on a Roe. I don’t with monolithic bullets. A roe shoulder makes a good venison Biryani for three or four.

Would you have a recipe you'd be willing to share please? Tried making something along those lines with a jar of curry but would love to try something a bit more proven 😅

I’ve honestly not seen any difference between lead and copper in this respect. A combination of TTSX and GS Custom bullets in a couple of calibres over 5 years or more - damage is the same from lead or copper. If you knock big holes in stuff then you get meat damage!

Agree and also makes a difference if the bullet is monometal/monolithic.... or designed to have petals break off.... or prefragmented tin front section

Not a fan.

I have seen some horrific damage on carcasses with those type of bullets………. But you do as you please and I’ll use what I know works 👍

I probably prefer simple monolithic but.... the Geco Zero shoot well in my .308 - certainly get the job done, if I avoid shoulders damage is no different to simple copper and they might give me an edge with neck shots.
