Dead Freelander!

£900 is worth a fix, unless replacing with a bicycle.

But, be sure it’s not ‘probably £900’ and ends up being £3k. I trust Russian prostitutes more than mechanics
A couple of other things come into play and effect my decision.
1/ I won’t be needing the FL off road ability anymore.
2/A daughter has just passed her drivers test at 50 years old and will be insured to drive whichever vehicle I have.
3/ I’ve just paid £116 to put my daughter on the policy for the last 6 weeks of present insurance before it expires.
Last year’s premium for me was near £900, so expecting an increase there. Being 82 doesn’t help with insurance.
If I buy (Looking at Yeti auto, poss. 4x4) I can insure myself, wifey (Who has her own car) and my daughter all for £820. That around half the cost to insure us all for the FL2.
Road tax will also half from £435 pa too.
Add to that near twice the mpg and there are very considerable savings and a Yeti will do all we need it to.
Obviously up front cost of Yeti to consider.
It’s a no brainer for me.
Thanks for all replies. 👍🙂
Ken.

Keep your broken down car (if you have the room) and buy exactly the same model. Use your old car for donor parts.
Did this with a Freelander 1 that got written off by a taxi driver who did a U turn without looking 🤬

Insurers paid out enough to buy a newer higher spec replacement.

Bought old car back from insurers for £160.

Removed all 4 injectors to keep as spares for the FL1 replacement we bought.

Sold 5x alloy wheels with good Goodyear Wrangler tyres to a mate for £200 plus his old wheels with bald tyres so the car still moved.

Sold the leather steering wheel, drivers seat & the external ‘cage’ type roof rack to another mate for £150.

A few other bits went to various people, jack & tools for changing wheels, locking wheel nuts, etc.

Then sold it for £190 as scrap 👍

Ended up about £500 ahead from it.

How goes things @kenbro , did you get sorted with a Yeti..?
Hi Stuart,
I Google (For known faults) each model of car I’m interested in and it seems every single one has known faults, some worse than others.
I haven’t actually viewed a Yeti yet.
I did find a Range Rover Evoque (Freelander with different jacket on?) that sounded good but when I got to see it it was a manual gearbox model. Never thought for a minute there would be such a thing, so my mistake as must have auto.
Had a ride in a Tiguan 4 motion part ex car at a local showroom,
old (2015) but only 2 owners. Last owner (Iqbal Mohammed had done 18K in 10 months.
Decided against it.
Still got an XC40 to share with wifey and other stuff going on so not really been looking very enthusiastically.
Cheers, Ken.

If its the evoque with the ingenium engine, don't waste your money! Awful things

You do worse then take a look at this below I've recently listed in the classifieds on here, not had a breath of trouble out of it. Full service record from new, the timing belt & fuel pump both changed as recommended by LR and done at a main dealer.

I'm only selling has my long awaited over due Dirty Unicorn Ford Ranger Pick-up finally landed👍

If Evoque - make sure it has a 2.2 diesel & not the rubbish 2.0 Ingenium one…

2.2 Puegot

Hi ghs;
I looked at your ad. and it looks an excellent buy but,
I need it insure it for a daughter that has only just passed her driving test and the cost for that is prohibitive, unfortunately.
Thanks, Ken.

No problem Ken understood, thanks for the nice comment anyway👍 I managed to get it on a reasonably priced group insurance with mine & my Mrs motors, in essence anyone over 25 can drive it, this helped my son out on the odd occasion he needed to borrow my motor to get to work, this with Impact Insurance of Bolton. Motor Insurance is such a minefield these days hey, the fact that in essence its classed as a commercial van use to get really great Insurance rates and a pittance road tax. Times have changed and not for the better, its eyewatering now what they ask to insure some motors that exceed 2.0l. Thanks again anyhow for your interest.😊
