Effective, who knows

Brexit referendum: People voted for Brexit and got Brexit. Losers didn’t like it and wanted second referendum.
2024 election: People voted for Labour manifesto promising no tax rises, protection of the countryside, voters to keep more of their money and a lighter touch government, much higher economic growth and growth the be paramount, politicians acting with complete integrity - and got massive tax rises, incredibly sleazy and corrupt politicians, widespread industrialisation of the countryside, the economy trashed, rising unemployment - large scale redundancies, reduced investment, class warfare, energy security destroyed, racist MPs being acceptable, and an HR lawyer leader aligning the UK with concentration camps and terrorism as acceptable.

There is a category difference between people who lost a vote on an issue fair and square, and people disgruntled about having voted for A and got Z.
A lot of people voted for Brexit on two fronts, we would take back control of our borders and reduce Imigration secondly it would be better for our economy, to date both of those turned out to be incorrect

Wow. I wonder how many that now want a re-run of the General Election because they aren't happy with the result are some of the same people that told the folk that voted "Remain" in the EU Brexit Referendum to "get over it" and there shouldn't be a "second vote" because the first vote was final and what the people voted for?

Because it can be said that the promises made by "Leave" laid out in the Referendum also were not kept. Remember ÂŁ350 million a week to the NHS, the removal of VAT on domestic electricity and gas, the "easiest trade deal in history", "no border in the Irish Sea", a better place for British fishermen and British farmers (that was Farage wasn't it).

Not to forget Turkey joining the EU? And free trade with the rest of the world...and especially with the USA?

Why Vote Leave

Let's take back control on 23 June

Are you able to discern any categorical difference between a general election to select a government and an advisory referendum to show opinion on a single issue?

Be it a single issue, Brexit or a general election both sides make arguments as to why you should vote for them as they try and win your vote. In the Brexit referendum the two major factors that influenced voters on the leave side were taking back control of Imigration and reducing it plus it would be good for the economy, picture of Boris next to a bus with a simple example of how much money we would “ save” and how much would go to the NHS. Labour got in to power largely off the back of 14 years of conservative rule with the last 4 years being a shambles. Labour made a number of pledges the main one being to grow the economy we are less than a year in let’s see how they do. We who voted to remain lost and so we have had to get on with it, Labour won with a landslide parliamentary majority and so lots of people will “ have to get on with that” and stop whinging

Just shy of 900k signatures now - even though less than 5% of the voters who turned out it is surely sending a bit of a message? - 28.9m people voted from c.48m eligible to vote btw- around 58%

Must admit I've actually agreed with a few of your posts recently, but no, not having that as a legitimate reply. It's exactly the same. Democratic vote, & majority decided. Any other twist or spin is completely immaterial. The people have spoken. Doesn't matter if you happily accept it or cry like a widdle bĂŻtch aka Petition: Call a General Election, the result remains the same.

You're wrong here because the difference is misrepresentation of the product. You're saying that you'd have no grounds for complaint if you agreed to buy a dozen sheep from me, but in fact I supplied some diseased hamsters and robbed you.
Brexit is just a case of the people who didnt vote for something complaining, whereas now the people who did vote for something are disgruntled.
Any other twist or spin is completely immaterial.
Spin may be immaterial but the fundamentals are important.

Can you prove that the majority of the respondents on that petition actually voted labour?

Frankly, based on social media and on here, the main respondents to this are the Tory and Reform voters who didn't get their way.

Pot meet kettle.

Would not be surprised at all if the proportion of labour voters on that petition is the same as the proportion of Brexiteers who saw the **** show it was becoming and had regrets.

You're wrong here because the difference is misrepresentation of the product.
It's absolutely not. Even the most cretinous, biased & thicko voter knows they're is one of two options. You're basing your vote on either yes/no, them/us. It's not at all difficult. It's why democracy works, the issue is understanding what **** your fed in the propaganda. But once you've decided it's not difficult.

A lot of people voted for Brexit on two fronts, we would take back control of our borders and reduce Imigration secondly it would be better for our economy, to date both of those turned out to be incorrect
That’s completely untrue, as well you know and every one else, a lot of people voted for Brexit for many reasons one of which is not being ruled by corrupt agents of other countries that were not elected by anybody, financial corruption that was not able to be redressed, unelected MEP’s on a massive gravy train. Or was it just me.

Can you prove that the majority of the respondents on that petition actually voted labour?
No, and it was not that to which I referred. There is however sufficient polling data giving Labour approval ratings as low as 9%, which clearly indicate that a hefty majority of Labour voters are disgruntled with the corruption, money-grubbing, lying, rising unemployment, higher bills, deception, refusal to be accountable, and crashing of the economy, all of which have been deliberate actions which go directly against what was promised.
We are of course used to the usual levels of dishonesty from politicians, which thus far has consisted of promising things in manifestos which they subsequently don't deliver. This is categorically different because the Labour manifesto wasn't wishful thinking, it was a pack of intentional lies while they actually intended to deliver the opposite. That is unprecedented and arguably illegitimate, at least at the level of natural justice.
Frankly, based on social media and on here, the main respondents to this are the Tory and Reform voters who didn't get their way.
Can you prove that claim?
Pot meet kettle.
Pot meet kettle indeed.

As if this makes a difference. People when they had a chance didn't turn up to vote and even if another election was called, the turnout won't be any different. So apart from wasting more money I very much doubt if this will make any difference. Best to let labour run its course so that they can be voted out with no chance of return for the next few decades. Sometimes you need to go through enough pain for a generation to remember to turn up to vote. 300k out of almost 67 million is 0.45%

may be the future is online voting, so no need to turn out.
