Exporting to Southern Ireland

Good evening all, due to unforeseen circumstances I am moving back to Southern Ireland later in the month.
I have an Anschutz 1517 .17 HMR and a Browning 725 12 bore that I want to take back with me if at all possible. I am bridgwater based, Does anyone know of any dealers in the southwest that can export to the EU being Southern Ireland ? Also does anyone know roughly the costs and charges involved ? Am I better off selling the guns here in the uk if the cost of export/import out weights the worth of the guns ? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated !

Most are sent to an RFD in N.Ireland. They are then exported from N.Ireland down to the south. One of the benefits of the N.I. Protocol.

Assuming you will be needing an ROI license I would sugguest 'selling' them to you chosen N.I RFD who will then collect them from your (current) local RFD.

You can then 'purchase' them back from the N.I RFD when the time comes.

How much this incurs should be agreed beforehand.

IIRC it’s about £25_30 to ship from the U.K. to N. Ireland. Paperwork in N.I. In the region of £50. You then have to arrange with an RFD in the South to import them for you. Who will presumably charge also, time is money.A personal importation is far more grief paperwork wise.

Since the rifles are already yours you may be able to import them without paying duty. That you’ll have to check, I know that you can import a car duty free if you can show that you own it but I’m not sure about other items.
You will need an import licence from ROI dept of justice and an export licence from the UK to make the transfer of jurisdiction legal.
You can get a non resident firearms cert valid for 12 months for E40 per firearm, that will cover you for the initial entry.
Once you have a permanent address apply for the ROI resident certs.
You may need to show the import/export licences at this point
With the ROI visitor cert you should be able to carry them over yourself.
Its not difficult and not costly but the process does take a bit of time and you have to do it regardless of whether you land in ROI or NI initially.
You cannot legally bring a firearm from NI to ROI permanently without going through the same process.

My advice for what it worth is to to hand in your Wpns into your rfd and arrange for them to be sent to a rfd in the north of Ireland, then use a local rfd in the south to have them sent from the north to the south, there they can stay until you get them licence in the south, straight forward.
Do you know any rfd in the Ireland, north or south, if not PM me and may be able to recommend a rfd.

I’ve been in touch with Brian and they can only send them to NI as they are not licensed to send them to the EU, I’d rather go direct to a dealer local to home in the south but I may just have to go down this road if needs be.

I bought a rifle from a member of this site and had it transferred “sold” to an RFD in the north who then transferred “sold” it to my local RFD who I then “bought” it from. Sounds more complicated than it actually is, they know each other and did the paperwork between them.
Mike Duggan in Killarney is a good man to deal with.

I paid £25 for my local RFD to send a shotgun I was selling to a gentleman in SI to an RFD in NI, I think the name of the RFD in NI was something like Ockenoky or something similar.
From there the buyer from SI made arrangements to get it from there.
