Fac air is it worth it ?

Even my local RFD said he hardly sells .22 ammo but 10 of thousand of pellets
location dependant and this would 100% be expected to be so away from the rural areas. Got to say i often shoot hundreds of pellets on a pleasant day myself just plinking on my 50 yard range at home. When i shot FT i was often shooting 1000 a week

@Klenchblaize very nice bit of kit there . Is it sub 12 of fac ?

Also what are those rather sexy looking mounts you have on there ?
FAC rated. The mounts are modified 1970’s vintage Redfield, as are the rings. Had to drill and tap the receiver without penetrating the barrel.

Only issue is the height of the scope is too low to allow use of the rotary pellet magazine.

I have both. A £1500 FAC air and a £64 Anschutz 1417, bought in an auction. Both I view as tools for particular roles.

They both deal with short/medium range rabbits - but the FAC is for specific locations I shoot over that I can't shoot my LR. Not even CCI quiets at 750 FPS.

If I didn't have that particular need, I wouldn't have gone down that route TBH.

I deliberately chose a FAC that isn't set up for tweaking like FX. As mentioned, I do think a lot of the attraction for many is the adjustability - just dont see the need or the point for my use. If people enjoy it that's great, and is a reason in itself.

The one I have is very reliable though with no seals etc causing issues - though it does get serviced regularly.

It can be adjusted via hammer spring but what's the point for my use? It's consistent at 42 ft lbs and works with 26 ISH grain Hades out to 75m and this consistency means is ideal for use with the Pard008s and the ballistic calculator.

It's the perfect tool for my particular need.

That said, if I didn't have the particular need though for FAC air, I don't think I would have got it. Costs are prohibitive to purchase and I also run a compressor, again adding to overall cost.

As a direct comparator against the traditional use that the majority of people have a 22LR for, I don't think FAC air stacks up. My cheap, 25 year old Annie does that and more.

And that's coming from someone who started out with air rifles and still owns various ones - including my first ever one, a second hand BSA Meteor bought in a junk shop in 1984.

I use a FAC FX Imapct for squirels and have to say its a great tool also can vary the power when shooting in buildings for other vermin.Very quiet and the fact you can adjust the power to your needs it's a big plus !
Go for it !

Crack on plan ! No chance at the CCi quiet ? in the airguns place ? Or was it just landowner / clients request ? Quiet target spec are very good the hollows less so
Had some funny landowners over the years who ask you to use certain things and not certain others , normally best to just comply mind

Location and owner driven.

Three jobs necessitate FAC air. Clearing rabbits off a small holding with a school next door that has a sports ground used in the evening and a cricket club next to a granny farm (retirement home). Also have a small paddock/back garden which TBH very rarely visit nowadays.

Cricket club has problems with rabbits digging into the cricket square, mainly in March time, which by definition has to be rock hard. I use FAC air and Hades in .25, which hit solidly, but absolutely zero chance of over penetration and ricochet off the square in case (when🙂) I miss.

CCI quiets are like rocking horse poo around here. I normally use Blazer (CCI) or Gecko semi auto through the Annie, both cheap as chips and running around 1050FPS - but went to get some more and all sold out near me. I refuse to use Winchester subs as just no consistency with them, so have started using RWS HP subs which are pretty quiet and good out to 75 m for me. Thes are ideal for the farmland and golf courses I use the LR on. If I need more reach, I have a WMR.

Yes I am a bit old school.....

Good afternoon,
I’m toying with the idea of an fac airgun mainly for squirrel control , I have a rimfire bit for safety reasons that’s out if shooting squirrels in trees , I’ve tried a moderated .410 with limited success , I know people recommend gas guns but to be honest I hear of nothing but problems with them , are there any fac springers that are worth it ?

Best , James

I am having the same debate with myself. I have 22lr but it’s not always the correct choice and often I run out of my fav rounds, cci segmented 710f/s. Bloody quiet and hit with a thud. But I think a FAC would give me more options. It’s been interesting reading the debate.

Winchester subs are terrible now last batch i had went back after using just half a single box out of a full brick. Rim size was all over the shop ! some wouldn't fire those that did wasn't useable , dealer ( a large dealer ) sent his whole shipment back .

Nothing wrong with impact’s , may be the owner are the problem!!
mine leaked from the power plenum from the factory and again straight back from repair.i gave up and returned it .later i found out the re sold it to someone else exactly as i returned it and he took it back too .not the shop selling it but the main dealer kept sending it out faulty.

Yes you do get a few which are awful from new, but not just fx . Had daystate in the past with problems from new

I’m going to be selling my FAC air arms s510 soon if that’s of any interest, I used it for farmyard crows and best shot was 104y carrion who thought it was safe sat out from the year watching in 😂😂

Comes with scope too

Shooting a springer accurately takes more skill than a gas gun as your refer to them. Particularly an FAC springer, I own a hw80 at 18ft per pound, however my tx200 tunned by Tony leach shoots far better at sub 12 I can hit a 5p and 20 yards consistently.
I find setting up a feeder the far most effective method if you don’t want to trap them, although creeping though the woods with the aid of a thermal is great fun.

FAC air rifles can be bought for snip compared to their sub12 equivalents, if you want fac I’d go theoben rapid or an old bsa supper ten or if you want to spend a bit more look at a air arms s510 (all British made)

I’d avoid an fac springer as the tunners won’t touch them and you’ll struggle to re-sell, a sub 12 tunned air arms or HW with be far nicer to shoot.

I have to say having had PCP and well tuned springers . PCP while they shoot at higher FAC levels all PCP need fixing a fair bit and charging gear needs filling , testing etc . An Airgun works real nice at around 15-18 ftlb in a well tuned springer like the Venom Lazerglide , is pretty much " bomb proof reliability" . I prefer 22 LR after that for the reliabilty, cost and availablity of different power ammo , rather than different power guns.
Airguns are a pastime in themselves though, whatever type and power you like. To me they fill the slot around buildings , dealing with ferals , rats etc
