See, I must admit, I really don’t get running an air rifle with slugs at 90 ft-lb. It just becomes a .22 LR…..
Its all about options .
Whats the point of having a car that can do 100 mph when your only allowed to do 70 mph ( if your lucky )
Whats the point of having a rifle / calibre that can achieve 3000 ftlbs to shoot a deer when you only need 1750 ftlbs ?
At the moment its in .22 form running 32 ftlbs with pellets because thats all i need for what im doing at the moment but it will turn up to 60 ftlbs with slugs if i felt the need i spose .
But in the spring i come out of the woods from shooting pigeons and squirrels and start lamping at night more often than not on the bunny's i will switch it over to .25 cal and run it around 90 ftlbs .
But if i have to go clear a building of ferols i can just turn it right down again with NO loss of accuracy and go clearing building and barns out . Then turn it back up when im done , like i said its all about options no need to make a trip to my RFD to buy special ammo ( or should i say order it and wait 3 months for it to turn up ) everything i need is in my pocket and the turn of a dial !
Having the extra power gives me a much greater scope to tune my rifle and ammo combination for starters .
Its the same principle with reloading. Sometimes you need to turn the power up or down to achieve stability or just to flatten out your trajectory with different pellets or slugs or just to plain make the rifle more efficient
lot of people don't realise just how tuneable these are , i can change barrel length / twist rate / seating depth / MV
And have a lot more flexibility with ammo weights than a ever can with a rimmy . I can shoot 15.5 grn right up to 47 grn
So i have an air rifle and a rimfire all in one great big tuneable package that will tune to 1 - 2 fps over 25 shots or more .
I also use it for PRS comps and small bore Bench rest inter-comp league , as do others !
Hoping that sort of makes sense .
