yes, last time I used Medcert my GP left it until the last possible minute to release my records.I used medical4firearms when I got my FAC grant a couple of years ago - however that was when BASC still had a panel (and they were on that). Was painless and quick, once the GP actually actions the SAR and hands over the records...
Think BASC only recommend one now (can't remember which one)
Did that 5 years ago. They are not interested. Despite the husband of one of the practice GP's being a keen shooting man.Have a chat with the surgery manager, explain that you will be getting a third party to do the work due to their fees, they might have a change of heart when they have to do the same work for free by supplying the records, worth a try
Ridiculous isn't it, apparently sending the records to shootcert etc is just as much work and they do it for freeDid that 5 years ago. They are not interested. Despite the husband of one of the practice GP's being a keen shooting man.
Their reasoning for the high charge is that they need to review a shooters records every 6 months.
That is total male cattle manure. As they have banner on the screen every time you see them and if you don't see them them nothing has changed!!

That works out at 85 pence a week man you are hard done by how many of you spend £50 or more on drink and cigarettes makes me sickI have just received notification for my firearms licence renewal.
My Doctor charges a blackmail fee of £220. Last time I used Medcert but before I contact them I wonder how others have got on with them or if there are any other recommendations.

Don't drink or smoke, dont see why I should fork out £220 to a "business" that doesn't want my money and is "anti" my sport when others are happy to accept my business for a fraction of that figure. That works out at 85 pence a week man you are hard done by how many of you spend £50 or more on drink and cigarettes makes me sick
Other local practices won't take on other patients from within the health board area. Which is a real shame as neighbouring practices change £30 and zero!A mate of mine had the same thing when applying for his SGC. My doctor charged me £30, his was £220…I told him to register at my doctors, but he opted to use shootcert.
Shootcert supplied limited records, as that’s what they received from the doctor. Turns out the GP never had his full medical history from his previous (childhood) GP.
So he had to contact the former GP, ask for the records to be transferred over, contact his current GP to confirm they’d received them, contact shootcert to confirm they had full medical history, then forward it all on to the firearms team….and still got charged full whack for the privilege.
If it’s a viable option for you, maybe have a poke around some other GP’s in the area and see how much they’d charge to sign the proforma?
